Engineering - Copper

Purpose/Objective

To provide executive leadership and strategic direction for all operations of the copper manufacturing facility. This role is accountable for the overall performance of the plant, including production, financial results, safety, quality, and human capital development. The General Manager ensures the plant's long-term sustainability and profitability, aligning all activities with corporate strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities of Role

- Executive leadership: Lead the entire plant management team, including senior managers and area leads, to achieve operational excellence. Foster a culture of high performance, accountability, and continuous improvement across all functions. - Strategic planning and execution: Develop and implement the plant's long-term business strategy, including capacity planning, capital investment, and technological innovation. Ensure all strategic initiatives are executed effectively and deliver intended results. - Financial management: Oversee the plant's P&L (Profit and Loss) and balance sheet. Develop and manage annual budgets, drive cost-reduction programs, and identify opportunities to increase profitability and shareholder value. - Operational oversight: Provide oversight and guidance to all production, maintenance, engineering, and quality functions. Ensure operational targets are met, quality standards are maintained, and all processes are optimized for efficiency. - Safety, health, and environment (SHE): Champion an uncompromising safety culture. Ensure the plant operates in full compliance with all local, national, and international SHE regulations and standards. - Stakeholder relations: Act as the key representative for the plant to external stakeholders, including government bodies, community leaders, suppliers, and customers. Maintain strong relationships with corporate leadership and the board.

Qualifications and Experience

- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Metallurgical, etc.) is required. An MBA from a top-tier institution is highly preferred. - Experience: 20+ years of progressive experience in a heavy manufacturing or process industry, with at least 8-10 years in senior leadership roles (e.g., Senior Manager, Plant Manager). Direct and extensive experience in the metals or copper industry is essential. - Skills: Exceptional executive-level leadership, strategic thinking, and financial management skills. Proven ability to manage large-scale operations, lead diverse teams, and navigate complex business challenges. - Certifications: Advanced professional certifications in leadership, management, or continuous improvement (e.g., Master Black Belt) are highly valued.
