Engineer - New Product Development

Position: Engineer-New Product Development (NPD)

Department: Engineering / R&D
Reporting To: Engineering Manager / Plant Head
Location: Office & Shop Floor

Role Summary

The New Product Development Engineer is responsible for planning, designing, developing, and industrializing new products from concept to production, ensuring quality, cost, and delivery targets are met.

Key Responsibilities Product Design & Development

• Study customer requirements, drawings, and specifications
• Develop concept designs, layouts, and detailed drawings
• Prepare BOM (Bill of Materials) and technical documentation
• Coordinate design validation and feasibility studies

Process Development

• Define manufacturing processes for new products (machining, fabrication, assembly)
• Develop process flow, control plans, PFMEA, and work instructions
• Coordinate with production, quality, and tooling teams

Prototyping & Trials

• Plan and execute prototype development and pilot runs
• Support trial production, FAI, and validation activities
• Analyze trial results and implement design/process improvements

Costing & Commercial Support

• Prepare product cost estimates and support quotation activities
• Identify cost reduction opportunities through design optimization
• Support sourcing and vendor development

Quality & Customer Coordination

• Ensure compliance with quality standards (ISO / IATF, customer specs)
• Support PPAP / APQP documentation (if applicable)
• Address customer queries, design changes, and technical discussions

Continuous Improvement

• Drive DFMEA/PFMEA actions to improve product reliability
• Support value engineering and standardization initiatives

Skills & Competencies

• Strong understanding of mechanical design and manufacturing processes
• Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo, CATIA – any)
• Ability to interpret GD&T and engineering drawings
• Knowledge of NPD lifecycle, APQP, PPAP (preferred)
• Good communication and project coordination skills

Qualifications

• Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical / Production / Industrial Engineering
• 2–7 years experience in New Product Development or Manufacturing Engineering

Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹25,000.00 per month
