Job Description

FPGA / Embedded Systems Engineer

Location: Panvel, Maharashtra (On-site)

Company: Stardust CPS Pvt. Ltd.

Experience: 4–8 years in FPGA design, embedded systems, or high-speed imaging hardware

About Stardust CPS

At Stardust CPS, we design and manufacture high-speed banknote inspection and authentication systems for central banks and secure printing facilities.

Our machines combine optics, embedded control, FPGA-based image acquisition, and intelligent software to inspect and sort banknotes with precision, speed, and security.

We’re now building an in-house technology team to own, innovate, and advance our imaging and control systems. As part of this core team, the FPGA / Embedded Systems Engineer will play a critical role in ensuring our machines operate flawlessly — capturing every image, every time, with absolute precision.

About the Role

As the FPGA / Embedded Systems Engineer, you’ll be responsible for the real-time control, synchronization, and data acquisition that power our inspection systems.

You’ll design and maintain the FPGA logic, camera interfaces, lighting control, and encoder synchronization that ensure our imaging pipeline performs reliably at industrial speeds.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working at the intersection of hardware timing, digital design, and real-world system integration — where microseconds matter and precision defines success.

Key Responsibilities

1. Camera and Frame Grabber Integration

  • Configure and integrate JAI / Basler cameras with frame grabbers (Euresys, Silicon Software, or similar).
  • Design FPGA logic to manage triggering, buffering, and data transfer from cameras to the PC.
  • Work closely with the Vision Engineer to align image capture with conveyor motion and lighting events.

2. FPGA Development

  • Develop and maintain FPGA-based processing pipelines using VHDL / Verilog or VisualApplets.
  • Implement high-speed data path designs for multi-camera image acquisition.
  • Optimize logic for low-latency synchronization between multiple cameras and sensors.
  • Simulate, test, and debug FPGA logic using standard design tools (Vivado, Quartus, or Libero).

3. Embedded System Control

  • Develop firmware and control logic for lighting, sensors, and actuators used in inspection machines.
  • Interface with microcontrollers, motion controllers, and PLCs to coordinate system timing.
  • Manage real-time communication between FPGA, PC, and motion systems using serial, EtherCAT, or custom interfaces.

4. System Synchronization & Timing

  • Design and maintain trigger synchronization systems for note movement, image capture, and reject mechanisms.
  • Calibrate encoder pulses, triggers, and camera exposure to ensure perfect alignment.
  • Collaborate with the Vision Engineer to maintain consistent image quality and timing integrity at full speed.

5. R&D and Next-Gen Hardware Development

  • Evaluate next-generation cameras, sensors, and frame grabbers for future machine designs.
  • Prototype and test new FPGA architectures to support higher resolution or faster throughput.
  • Work closely with hardware vendors to explore new modules and system improvements.

Requirements

Technical Skills

  • 4–8 years of experience in FPGA design or embedded system development.
  • Proficiency in VHDL / Verilog or VisualApplets for image acquisition or signal control.
  • Experience with CameraLink / CoaXPress / GigE Vision protocols.
  • Knowledge of frame grabbers (Euresys, Silicon Software, Teledyne, etc.).
  • Experience with industrial cameras (JAI, Basler, FLIR) and lighting systems.
  • Understanding of real-time systems, encoder feedback, and trigger synchronization.
  • Familiarity with embedded communication (UART, SPI, RS-232, Modbus, EtherCAT).

Soft Skills

  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills in live hardware environments.
  • Hands-on mindset — comfortable working on wiring, sensors, and timing calibration.
  • Ability to collaborate closely with vision and software engineers to achieve system-wide precision.
  • Detail-oriented with a deep respect for timing, stability, and reliability.
What You’ll Achieve

  • Own the image capture backbone of Stardust CPS inspection systems.
  • Ensure every frame is captured, synchronized, and delivered perfectly to the vision software.
  • Develop and implement next-generation FPGA architectures for speed and scalability.
  • Play a key role in the evolution of a Make-in-India, globally competitive inspection technology.

Why Join Stardust CPS
  • Build real systems that combine hardware, optics, and AI — not just code.
  • Be part of a small, highly capable team building world-class machines from India.
  • Collaborate directly with founders and senior engineers on groundbreaking technology.
  • Own your domain — from concept to testing to production deployment.
