Electrical Engineer - Solar Projects (Rooftop & Ground Mounted)

The Senior Electrical Engineer shall be responsible for electrical design, engineering, execution, testing, and commissioning of solar PV projects, including rooftop and ground-mounted installations. The role involves site evaluation, preliminary design & cost estimation, detailed engineering, and end-to-end execution, ensuring compliance with applicable CEA, DISCOM, IEC, and IS standards.

Key Responsibilities:

1.

• Visit project sites for site evaluation, feasibility assessment, and data collection.
• Prepare tentative system designs and preliminary BoQs for cost estimation and techno-commercial proposals.
• Assess site constraints related to space, load, evacuation, earthing, and safety requirements.

2.

• Carry out electrical design and detailed engineering for solar PV projects.
• Design DC and AC systems including:
• PV string sizing and configuration.
• Inverter selection (string / central).
• DCDB, ACDB, LT & HT panels.
• Earthing and lightning protection systems.
• Prepare SLDs, GA drawings, cable schedules, layouts, and BoQs.
• Perform

  electrical calculations

  , including:
• Cable sizing and voltage drop calculations.
• Short-circuit and load calculations.
• Protection coordination.
• Design HT/LT evacuation systems including transformers, RMUs, and metering.

3.

• Supervise electrical execution activities at project sites.
• Oversee installation of:
• Inverters.
• Transformers.
• LT/HT panels.
• DC & AC cable laying, termination, and testing.
• Coordinate with civil, structural, and project teams to ensure smooth execution.
• Ensure work execution as per approved drawings, specifications, quality standards, and safety norms.

• Conduct and supervise

  pre-commissioning and commissioning activities

  .
• Perform and review tests such as:
• Insulation resistance (IR) tests
• Continuity tests
• Transformer oil testing
• Relay testing and protection settings
• Coordinate with

  DISCOM authorities

  for:
• Grid connectivity approvals
• Net metering / synchronization
• Metering and energization

5.

• Provide technical inputs for vendor finalization and procurement of electrical materials.
• Review technical datasheets, drawings, QAPs, and test certificates.
• Coordinate with OEMs and contractors for technical clarifications and site support.

6.

• Prepare and review as-built drawings, commissioning reports, and handover documents.
• Ensure compliance with:
• CEA regulations
• Local DISCOM requirements
• IEC / IS standards
• Electrical safety and statutory norms
• Maintain proper project documentation and records.

7.

• Guide and mentor

  junior engineers and site supervisors

• Coordinate with

  project management, QA/QC, planning, and safety teams

• Support project scheduling, progress monitoring, and reporting.

Technical Skills Required:

• Strong understanding of solar PV systems (rooftop & ground-mounted).
• Experience with string and central inverters.
• Knowledge of HT/LT systems, transformers, RMUs, and protection schemes.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD.
• Working knowledge of PVsyst, Arka 360, and similar solar design tools.
• Familiarity with net metering and evacuation systems.

Educational Qualification:

• B.E. / B. Tech in Electrical Engineering (mandatory).
• Solar / renewable energy certification preferred.

Desired Competencies:

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
• Good communication and coordination skills.
• Willingness to travel to project sites as required.

Preferred Experience:

• Utility-scale and C&I rooftop solar project experience.
• Coordination with DISCOMs and third-party inspectors.
• Exposure to SCADA and monitoring systems is an added advantage.
