Job Description

Position Summary

The District Coordinator will play an important role in ensuring the effective implementation and coordination of the project. They will also act as the primary liaison between all stakeholders involved in the project - namely Girl Rising as the anchor organization, the implementing partner, and local stakeholders namely government schools, teachers, parents, district and state/district government authorities.

The incumbent should be based out of Rajgarh district in either of the blocks where Girl Rising’s programs are present. Since Girl Rising is a remote organization, the incumbent is expected to work out of their homes with frequent travel to schools, partner organization’s offices, local government offices, and communities as needed.

Travel Details: This is a field-heavy role. The District Coordinator will spend ~70% of their time in the field doing school visits, community meetings, teacher support, and monitoring. The remaining time is for planning, reporting, documentation and coordination.

Salary Range: Commensurate with experience and industry standards.

Project Background

Girl Rising’s project in Rajgarh, Madhya Pradesh is focused on building self-confidence, voice and aspiration of adolescents in 24 Hindi-medium, government schools with the goal of achieving long-term outcomes like challenging gender norms, reduced early pregnancies/marriages, preventing school dropouts, and increasing access to higher education and career development.

Project Design

: The project is designed to empower adolescents through a holistic 45-session RISE curriculum, developed based on Girl Rising’s decade of experience. This is being delivered in government schools over two academic years with the support of teachers and school administration. The RISE curriculum covers critical themes, including gender equity, social emotional learning, and 21st century skills like digital literacy, financial literacy, and climate action.

Selected government school teachers are trained at least twice on all RISE curriculum topics. The training focuses on strengthening teachers’ understanding of why these themes matter and equipping them with classroom management techniques that drive equity within their classrooms.

: 12 sessions will be conducted with parents and community members to build their awareness on the same themes that their children learn and encourage them to create a supportive environment for adolescents to thrive.

The project is being implemented in partnership with Child In Need Institute (CINI), a credible community-based organization with deep experience in working with adolescents and long-standing engagement with local communities in the state. To measure the project’s effectiveness and impact, Girl Rising will conduct third-party evaluations, building evidence of behavioural and attitudinal changes among adolescents, parents, and teachers.

Scope of Work - Key Responsibilities

  • Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Serve as Girl Rising’s primary point of contact with local stakeholders, including CINI staff, parents, teachers, school leadership, and the local government.
  • Build and nurture trust-based relationships with teachers, heads of schools and the administration in schools to ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Facilitate meaningful engagement activities with parents and community members to encourage participation in Girl Rising’s sessions and build interest in learning about the RISE themes.
  • Represent Girl Rising in all community forums including meetings with teachers, parents, panchayats to promote the project’s work and foster collaboration.
  • Represent Girl Rising in all block, district and state level government meetings. Nurture good relationships with key government officials to explore long-term potential for scalability and sustainability of the project.
  • Identify opportunities for Girl Rising India to strengthen government relationships.
  • Training of Teachers:
  • Support CINI and Girl Rising in planning and delivering Training of Teachers which will be conducted twice during the project implementation.
  • Lead logistical planning, ensuring good attendance and support in the delivery of sessions
  • Facilitate virtual and in-person learning circles and meetings with teachers every quarter to provide hands-on support and build buy-in, motivation and alignment with project goals.
  • Project Management:
  • Visit all 24 schools at least once every two months to maintain quality of session delivery and timeline adherence.
  • Conduct classroom observations to maintain the quality of the session delivery.
  • Ensure field-level activities are completed as per the laid out timeline.
  • Align timelines of curriculum implementation in school, parent sessions, teachers training, and other community engagements.
  • Planning and coordinating visits to showcase project activities and impact to funders, government officials, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • On-Field Partnerships:
  • Build and maintain a strong relationship with CINI’s field team to ensure there is collaboration and support in project delivery.
  • Act as the point person for the CINI’s field team, addressing their queries, supporting in troubleshooting and providing timely guidance.
  • Liaison with all partners and vendors as needed to ensure all activities are conducted smoothly.
  • Monitoring & Reporting:
  • Work with CINI’s team to ensure timely submission of required records and documents to Girl Rising.
  • Relay all field-related insights and updates to the internal Girl Rising team.
  • Work closely with the Girl Rising project Team to facilitate all MEL activities including pre and post assessments and all other periodic monitoring activities.
  • Coordinate and monitor the work of Data Collectors to ensure the quality of data collected is adequate.
  • Documentation & Communications:
  • Ensure proper documentation of all key activities including meetings, sessions and visits to provide timely updates, field insights, photographs and other required project details.
  • Document stories of change highlighting the impact of the project on all key stakeholders

Qualification and Skills

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Social Work, Education or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in project management and field work in similar roles involving direct engagement with marginalized communities. Sensitivity to working with communities from different socio-economic contexts is an advantage.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to engage effectively and build trust with diverse stakeholders, including community members, while demonstrating empathy and sensitivity.
  • Proficiency in Hindi is compulsory to the role, and a good command in English is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of social equity, gender sensitivity and intersectionality is a strong advantage
  • A solution-oriented mindset with the ability to adapt and troubleshoot effectively.
  • Comfortable with regular travel across the district.
