JOB OVERVIEW

Functions as the leader of the propertys sales department for properties with bookings over 300 peak rooms and significant local catering revenue. Manages the propertys reactive and proactive sales efforts, provides day-to-day leadership to sales associates to achieve sales objectives, and holds overall responsibility for achieving booking goals and property revenues. Implements the brands service strategy and applicable brand initiatives in all aspects of the sales process while focusing on building long-term, value-based customer relationships. Evaluates the propertys participation in sales channels (e.g., Area Sales, Group Sales, electronic leads) and develops strong working relationships to proactively position and market the property. Manages the marketing budget to enable development of property-specific campaigns, promotions, and collateral. Interfaces with regional marketing communications for regional and national promotions pull-through. Develops and implements property-wide strategies that deliver products and services to meet or exceed the needs of the brands target customers and associates, while ensuring ROI for the owner and Marriott International.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Education and Experience

  • Required:

    • 2-year degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Hotel & Restaurant Management, or related major + 4 years sales/marketing experience

    • OR 4-year bachelors degree in related major + 2 years sales/marketing experience

  • Preferred:

    • 4-year college degree

    • Demonstrated team supervision skills

    • Lodging sales experience

    • Hotel industry work experience with progressive career growth and strong performance record

CORE WORK ACTIVITIES Managing Sales Activities
  • Manages strategic account plans for demand generators in the market

  • Determines and develops marketing communication activities with Regional Marketing Communications

  • Provides customer intelligence on market/economic trends to adjust strategies

  • Reviews STAR reports, competitor analysis, and other resources to maintain awareness of hotels market position

  • Researches competitor sales strategies to grow occupancy, RevPAR, and market share

  • Attends sales strategy meetings and contributes to overall sales planning

  • Suggests innovative marketing ideas and develops deployment strategies

  • Participates in sales calls with Sales & Marketing team to acquire/close business

  • Identifies public relations opportunities and coordinates supporting activities

  • Supports crisis communications with General Manager

  • Executes Marriotts Customer Service Standards and Brand Standards

  • Oversees operational aspects of business booked (proposals, contracts, correspondence)

  • Ensures seamless turnover between sales and operations while maintaining service quality

  • Monitors guest issue resolution during the sales process

  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Develops partnerships with local organizations to increase brand/product awareness

  • Manages key internal stakeholder relationships

  • Enhances community/public relations through tradeshows and client events

  • Delivers exemplary customer service to ensure satisfaction and loyalty

  • Understands customer needs, recommends solutions, and builds long-term loyalty

  • Gains insight into customer businesses to tailor better business solutions

Leadership
  • Develops sales goals/strategies aligned with brand business strategy

  • Coaches revenue-generating leaders to set and achieve aggressive goals

  • Ensures Sales team leverages Marriott International demand engines effectively

  • Partners with HR, Engineering, and Loss Prevention for compliance with regulations

  • Works with HR to attract, develop, and retain talent; manages workforce planning

  • Implements effective structures, processes, and performance management systems

  • Sets goals and expectations for direct reports using LPP, aligns rewards and performance accountability

  • Forecasts talent needs and minimizes turnover with strong acquisition strategies

  • Maintains a pipeline of competitors top sales talent and executes recruitment plans

  • Supports training resources to educate sales associates on catering and sales solutions

  • Champions leadership development and succession planning

  • Identifies, trains, and mentors group sales associates using on-the-job training tools

  • Transfers functional knowledge and develops group sales skills of other managers
