Role Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Design Engineer – Safety & Restraint Systems to join our ER&D team in Chennai. The role involves design and development of seat belts, airbags, airbag ACUs, sensors, and steering wheel components. You will translate product performance requirements into high-quality CAD designs aligned with standards and timelines.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design & develop Safety & Restraint system components (seat belts, airbags, ACUs, sensors, steering wheel).
• Provide CAD support and manage design activities as per project schedules.
• Ensure CAD data accuracy and required maturity levels.
• Apply FMVSS 210 / ECE R14, FMVSS 226, FMVSS 201 standards.
• Work on anchorage strength, positioning, and integration with seat/vehicle body.
• Conduct DFMEA, DVP, DFA/DFM activities.
• Perform DMU reviews (system & environment).
• Create BOM and manage data in PLM (assembly resolution).
• Prepare 2D drawings and drafting for assemblies/components.
• Address geometry, process, packaging, and manufacturability constraints.
• Prepare technical presentations, highlight issues, and propose solutions.
• Apply GD&T and follow design standards & guidelines.
• Meet project deliverables and maintain dashboard documentation.
• Use Renault design standards; work on CATIA/NX (Surface, Solid, Drafting).

Essential Skills & Experience:

• 3–5 years of automotive engineering experience in Safety & Restraint system design.
• Strong experience in CATIA V5/V6 and PLM (TCE).
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of manufacturing requirements (tooling & design), Safety & Restraint components, and related regulations (advantage).
• Proficient with Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word.
• Experience with global OEM cross-functional teams (preferred).
• Strong teamwork and positive attitude.
