Job Description

Job Summary:


Database Expert

The role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to enable efficient data storage, integration, and retrieval for analytics, reporting, and business intelligence.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Data Architecture & Modelling

  • Design, implement, and manage Data Warehouse and Data Lake architectures to support analytics and reporting needs.
  • Develop and maintain data models, schemas, and dimensional structures (star/snowflake).
  • Define and implement data ingestion, storage, and transformation frameworks.


2. Database & SQL Expertise

  • Write and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and scripts for ETL and reporting.
  • Ensure database performance, reliability, and scalability across large datasets.
  • Implement indexing, partitioning, and query optimization techniques for data warehouse environments.


3. ETL / Data Pipeline Development

  • Design and manage ETL pipelines to extract, transform, and load data from multiple sources into the data warehouse.
  • Work with tools like SSIS, Informatica, Talend, dbt, Apache Airflow, or Azure Data Factory.
  • Automate data ingestion and validation processes.


4. Data Governance & Quality

  • Ensure data consistency, accuracy, and integrity across systems.
  • Implement data security, access control, and compliance policies (GDPR, ISO, etc.).
  • Establish monitoring and auditing for data pipelines and storage layers.


5. Cloud & Big Data Ecosystem (Preferred)

  • Manage and optimize cloud-based data solutions (AWS Redshift, Azure Synapse, Snowflake, Google BigQuery, Databricks).
  • Integrate structured and unstructured data into a unified Data Lake environment.
  • Leverage cloud-native tools for cost optimization, data backup, and scalability.


6. Collaboration & Support

  • Work closely with Data Scientists, Analysts, and BI teams to enable self-service analytics.
  • Support business reporting, dashboarding, and KPI tracking needs.
  • Document database schemas, ETL workflows, and data lineage.


Required Skills & Expertise:

  • Strong command over SQL and relational database design
  • Proven experience with Data Warehouse and Data Lake architecture
  • Expertise in ETL tools (SSIS, Talend, Informatica, Airflow, dbt, etc.)
  • Deep understanding of data modeling (Kimball/Inmon methodologies)
  • Experience with cloud data platforms: AWS (Redshift, Glue, S3, Athena), Azure (Synapse, Data Lake, Data Factory) and GCP (BigQuery, Dataflow)
  • Proficiency in Python/Shell scripting for automation
  • Experience with data versioning, CI/CD for data pipelines, and monitoring tools
  • Familiarity with BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, Looker) is an advantage


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Engineering, or related field
  • 5–10 years of experience in data engineering, database administration, or BI development
  • Certifications preferred:
  • AWS Certified Data Analytics – Specialty
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate
  • Google Professional Data Engineer
