Database Developer (Postgresql with Javascript)

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and proactive PostgreSQL Developer / Administrator to join our team in Hyderabad. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in both database development and administration, with a focus on performance tuning, high availability, and operational efficiency in production PostgreSQL environments—both self-hosted and cloud-based (AWS Aurora).

We are specifically looking for a candidate with hands-on experience in migrating databases from Microsoft SQL Server to PostgreSQL, including schema conversion, data transformation, and query translation.

Key Responsibilities

1. Development:

• Design and optimise complex SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, and views
• Work with PostgreSQL-specific data types like JSONB, HSTORE, etc.
• Implement scalable data models, schemas, and version-controlled migrations
• Collaborate with development teams to integrate business logic into the database layer

2. Administration:

• Install, configure, and maintain PostgreSQL databases on VMs and AWS Aurora
• Handle backups, replication (streaming/logical), recovery (PITR), and patching
• Perform query tuning, indexing, and configuration optimisation (e.g., work_mem, shared_buffers)
• Monitor performance using tools such as pgAdmin, pgBadger, CloudWatch, Prometheus, and Grafana
• Manage user roles, permissions, and ensure database security and compliance
• Support CI/CD integration and automation for database changes
• Troubleshoot and resolve database incidents in production environments
• Lead or support migration projects from MS SQL Server to PostgreSQL, ensuring data accuracy and performance

Primary Skills

• Strong hands-on experience with PostgreSQL development and DBA tasks
• Proficiency in SQL and PL/pgSQL
• Experience in migrating databases from Microsoft SQL Server to PostgreSQL
• Deep understanding of query tuning, performance analysis, and indexing strategies
• Experience with AWS Aurora PostgreSQL and PostgreSQL configuration tuning
• Familiarity with Linux/Ubuntu CLI and shell scripting
• Experience with tablespaces, partitioning, replication, and high availability setups
• Hands-on with backup tools like pg_dump, pg_basebackup, and AWS-native solutions
• Ability to integrate PostgreSQL into CI/CD pipelines

Secondary Skills (Good to Have)

• Exposure to MS SQL Server, MySQL, or Oracle
• Familiarity with MongoDB or other NoSQL databases
• Understanding of RDBMS vs NoSQL use cases
• Experience with database migration tools such as pgLoader or AWS DMS

Tools & Platforms

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field
• Certifications in PostgreSQL, AWS, or Linux administration are a plus
• Experience with Agile/Scrum and DevOps practices
• Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
