Job Description

Job Summary

The Database Administrator (DBA) will manage and maintain DBC’s core databases powering platforms like AMRIT.
The role ensures high availability, performance, security, and reliability of databases while supporting operations, deployments, and data-driven decision-making.
The DBA will collaborate with application developers, infrastructure teams, and business stakeholders to design, optimize, and troubleshoot large-scale healthcare database systems.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain relational database systems (PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle) on-premises and on cloud (AWS RDS, Aurora, Azure SQL, GCP Cloud SQL).
  • Monitor and tune performance (queries, indexes, configurations) using tools like CloudWatch, Performance Insights, Grafana, or pgAdmin.
  • Ensure data security, integrity, backup, and recovery, including testing (snapshots, automated backups, cross-region replication).
  • Automate maintenance and deployments using CI/CD pipelines, Terraform, or AWS-native services.
  • Support deployments by reviewing database scripts, migrations, and data patches.
  • Troubleshoot database-related production issues (performance bottlenecks, connectivity, cloud integration errors).
  • Collaborate with developers for efficient schema design, query optimization, and best practices in scalable cloud environments.
  • Implement and monitor disaster recovery and high-availability strategies (clustering, replication, multi-AZ, failover).
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for configurations and cloud runbooks.
  • Assist in data governance frameworks and ensure compliance with HIPAA, DISHA, and other standards.
  • Support reporting and analytics teams with optimized queries and data pipelines.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

Education:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Strong hands-on experience with PostgreSQL/MySQL (SQL Server/Oracle is a plus).
  • Proficiency with monitoring tools (pgAdmin, Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, New Relic, Performance Insights).
  • Deep understanding of query optimization, indexing, and performance tuning in high-transaction systems.
  • Experience with backup, recovery, replication, clustering, and failover (on-premises and cloud).
  • Familiarity with Linux, shell scripting, Ansible, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines.
  • Understanding of APIs, microservices architectures, and database interactions.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud databases (AWS RDS, Aurora, Azure SQL, GCP Cloud SQL) — provisioning, scaling, security, and monitoring.
  • Knowledge of data governance, compliance standards, and healthcare data privacy (GDPR, DPDPA) is an advantage.
  • Prior exposure to healthcare or health-tech systems preferred.
