Database Administrator

Key Responsibility & Requirements Database Deployment and Configuration

Design and provision databases in Azure using:

o Azure SQL Database o Azure Database for PostgreSQL / MySQL

o Azure Managed Instance for SQL Server

o Azure VM-based Oracle installations (IaaS)

Install, configure, and upgrade on-prem and cloud-hosted SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL databases.

Performance Tuning and Optimization : -

Analyze query performance using Query Store, Extended Events (SQL Server), AWR/ASH (Oracle), or pg_stat_statements (PostgreSQL).

Index tuning, query rewriting, execution plan analysis.

Resource governance and workload balancing.

High Availability & Disaster Recovery (HA/DR) : -

Implement HA/DR solutions in Azure:

o Always On Availability Groups (SQL Server)

o Oracle Data Guard (for Oracle on Azure VMs)

o PostgreSQL HA ( Patroni , Azure Flexible Server zones)

Configure and manage backups using:

o Azure Backup

o Native tools (RMAN, pg_dump , mysqldump )

o Point-in-time restore in Azure SQL and PostgreSQL

Security and Compliance

Implement database-level and instance-level security:

o TDE (Transparent Data Encryption)

o Data masking

o Row-Level Security / Label Security

Manage Azure AD integration with databases

Handle audit logging and compliance checks for ISO, PCI, HIPAA

Monitoring and Maintenance : -

Set up and maintain health checks and job automation (via Azure Automation, cron , SQL Server Agent).

Monitor with:

o Azure Monitor

o Log Analytics

o Custom dashboards (Grafana + Azure Logs, Kibana)

Proactive capacity planning and anomaly detection

Database Migration and Replication :

Plan and execute migrations to Azure using:

Minimal downtime cutovers and rollback strategies

Automation and DevOps Integration

Develop automation scripts for:

o Backup verification

o Index/statistics maintenance

o Resource scaling

Collaboration and Documentation

Work closely with developers, cloud engineers, and application support teams.

Maintain SOPs, runbooks, migration plans, security documentation.

Participate in incident and change management (ITIL-aligned).

Professional Certifications (If Any) Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate

Oracle Database Administrator Certified Associate / Professional

PostgreSQL Certified Professional (optional but valuable)
