The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the performance, integrity, security, and availability of databases. This includes planning and development of the database architecture, as well as troubleshooting and ensuring optimal performance. The DBA works closely with developers, data analysts, and system administrators to manage data infrastructure and support business operations.
Install, configure, and upgrade database servers (SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.).
Monitor database performance, implement tuning improvements, and troubleshoot issues.
Perform regular database backups, restores, and disaster recovery procedures.
Implement and maintain database security (encryption, access control, user roles).
Ensure compliance with data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
Conduct audits and manage permissions across environments.
Monitor performance metrics and analyze slow-running queries.
Optimize database design, indexing, and storage solutions.
Resolve data integrity, locking, and connectivity issues.
Support application development by writing and tuning SQL queries, stored procedures, and triggers.
Collaborate with software engineers on database design and scalability.
Provide production support and on-call services for critical incidents.
Ensure data consistency, accuracy, and reliability across systems.
Maintain comprehensive documentation of configurations, policies, and procedures.
Proficiency in one or more RDBMS platforms: SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.
Strong SQL and database scripting knowledge.
Experience with high-availability solutions (clustering, replication, mirroring).
Knowledge of database tools and technologies (e.g., SSMS, pgAdmin, RMAN, etc.).
