About The Role
As a Senior Big Data DBA at NCG (NetConnect Global), you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the performance, stability, and scalability of mission-critical database systems. You will support large-scale Postgres and Greenplum environments, drive automation initiatives, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance data infrastructure. Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day support for distributed and mission-critical database environments, ensuring high availability and reliability.
- Maintain and optimize Postgres and Greenplum databases, including installation, configuration, upgrades, and performance tuning.
- Support HADR (High Availability Disaster Recovery), replication clusters, backup/restore strategies, and disaster recovery testing.
- Contribute to the automation of routine DBA tasks (using Ansible, Python, Shell, or Perl) and establish operational best practices.
- Partner with DevOps and SRE teams to modernize database environments through CI/CD and Infrastructure-as-Code practices.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues, performing root cause analysis across application, network, database, and infrastructure layers.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, cloud, analytics) to implement scalable data solutions.
- Provide guidance and training to L1/L2 database support teams globally.
- Participate in on-call rotation for weekend and after-hours production support as required.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (Masters preferred).
- 69 years of experience as a Database Administrator, with a strong focus on big data technologies.
Proven Expertise With
- Greenplum Database (v5, v6, or higher)
- Postgres (v12 or higher)
- Proficiency in database administration (installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, troubleshooting).
- Strong experience in performance tuning, replication, and high availability in Postgres/Greenplum environments.
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Snowflake preferred).
- Strong scripting skills in Unix/Linux environments (Ansible, Shell, Perl, or Python).
- Solid understanding of backup/recovery, disaster recovery, and capacity planning.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with technical and non-technical teams.
