Position Description

We are looking to hire 2–3 Data Engineers to support Gen AI initiatives and the Unity Catalog program within Manulife’s Analytics team. The ideal candidates will have strong experience with Databricks, AI-enabling data workflows, and full-stack engineering. This role does not involve Machine Learning (ML) model development or Business Intelligence (BI) work.

What You’ll Do

Collaborate with business and engineering teams to understand data needs and translate them into scalable solutions
Design, develop, and maintain high-performance ETL pipelines using Databricks and PySpark
Optimize big data processing workflows to ensure efficiency, reliability, and scalability
Work with AWS cloud services to manage, store, and process large-scale datasets
Implement data governance, security, and quality best practices
Troubleshoot and optimize performance issues in distributed data environments
Stay ahead of industry trends and drive innovation in data engineering best practices

Workplace:

Remote work but must be based in Latin America

Must Have Skills

5+ years of experience in data engineering
Hands-on expertise with Databricks
Experience contributing to Gen AI-focused programs
Familiarity with Unity Catalog implementation
Strong programming skills in Python and SQL
Exposure to full-stack development (frontend/backend components)

Outstanding communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work in fast-paced, cross-functional teams
Solid English written, verbal, and presentation communication skills
Strong team and individual player
Maintains composure during all types of situations and is collaborative by nature
High standards of professionalism, consistently producing high quality results
