Position Overview:

The Cinematographer will be responsible for overseeing the visual storytelling and technical aspects of film, video, and media productions within the DACA Department. The role involves mentoring students, managing production projects, operating camera and lighting equipment, and collaborating with faculty to produce high-quality visual content that enhances learning and showcases the department’s creative excellence.


Key Responsibilities:


1. Production & Cinematography

  • Plan, design, and execute visual compositions for student and departmental film/video projects.
  • Operate and maintain professional camera, lighting, and grip equipment.
  • Collaborate with directors, faculty, and students to define the visual language, style, and tone of projects.
  • Ensure proper framing, lighting, and camera movement in all productions.

2. Instructional Support & Mentorship

  • Guide students in cinematography principles including camera operations, lighting setups, shot composition, and visual storytelling.
  • Conduct practical demonstrations and workshops on camera techniques, lighting design, and cinematographic aesthetics.
  • Assist in developing curriculum content for cinematography, filmmaking, and visual media courses.

3. Technical & Equipment Management

  • Manage the department’s camera, lighting, and sound equipment inventory.
  • Ensure maintenance, calibration, and safe handling of all production gear.
  • Recommend upgrades and procurement of new equipment as per industry standards.

4. Creative Collaboration

  • Work with other creative faculty members in animation, VFX, photography, and design to support cross-disciplinary projects.
  • Collaborate on departmental events, student film festivals, and visual arts exhibitions.

5. Documentation & Evaluation

  • Document behind-the-scenes production processes for departmental archives and promotional use.
  • Evaluate student cinematography projects and provide constructive feedback.


Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Film Production, Cinematography, Visual Arts, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 2–5 years of professional experience in cinematography or film production.
  • Strong understanding of camera systems (DSLR, cinema cameras), lighting setups, and post-production workflows.
  • Proficiency in camera operation (Blackmagic, RED, Canon, Sony, etc.) and familiarity with editing/color grading software (DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro, etc.).
  • Creative eye for composition, lighting, and storytelling.
  • Strong communication and mentoring skills.
