About the Client

Our client is a new-age NBFC startup building a technology-driven lending and financial services platform. The company is in the process of obtaining its NBFC license and related regulatory approvals. We are seeking a seasoned compliance leader with strong NBFC/banking experience to build and oversee the entire compliance and regulatory framework of the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

Regulatory Compliance & Governance

• Lead and manage all regulatory and compliance activities in line with

  RBI regulations applicable to NBFCs

  , including Master Directions, circulars, notifications, and guidelines.
• Ensure full adherence to regulatory requirements including

  KYC/AML, Fair Practices Code, CIC guidelines, data governance, outsourcing norms, customer grievance redressal, and IT/IS compliance

  .
• Develop, implement, and update internal compliance policies, SOPs, and control frameworks for all business and operational processes.
  

RBI Licensing & Regulatory Interface

• Oversee the end-to-end process for obtaining the NBFC license and all regulatory approvals.
  
• Liaise with

  RBI

  and other statutory bodies for inspections, queries, audits, and ongoing regulatory submissions.
• Prepare and file all regulatory returns and reports such as

  NBS returns, DNBS filings, financial data submissions, and periodic compliance certificates

  .

Risk Management & Internal Controls

• Establish robust internal control mechanisms, risk management policies, and monitoring systems to prevent regulatory violations.
  
• Conduct periodic compliance testing, internal audits, and risk assessments across functions.
  
• Ensure the organisation adheres to responsible lending practices, reporting standards, data privacy norms, and operational risk controls.
  

Business & Product Compliance

• Review and approve all product structures, marketing content, and customer-facing material to ensure adherence to RBI and NBFC guidelines.
  
• Work closely with lending, collections, technology, operations, and finance teams to ensure regulatory alignment across processes.
  

Training & Stakeholder Management

• Conduct periodic compliance training for employees across departments.
  
• Keep senior management informed about regulatory changes, implications, and required business actions.
  
• Act as the single-point contact for all

  RBI and statutory compliance matters

  .

Qualifications & Experience

• 1015 years of experience

  in compliance, legal, or regulatory roles within

  banks or NBFCs

  (mandatory).
• Strong, hands-on understanding of

  RBI regulations applicable to NBFCs

  , including licensing, NBS/DNBS returns, governance norms, risk management, and AML/KYC compliance.
• Prior experience managing

  RBI inspections, statutory audits, regulatory filings, and compliance reporting

  .
• Deep knowledge of

  lending processes, customer onboarding, loan operations, credit, collections, and risk frameworks

  within an NBFC/bank.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills for dealing with regulators and internal teams.
  

• LLB, CS, CA, or equivalent professional qualification

  preferred.
