About the Role

Category Manager

Role & responsibilities

1. P&L Ownership & Strategy

  • Own the complete category P&L revenue, margins, marketing spends, and profitability.
  • Build and execute annual/quarterly category plans aligned with business goals.
  • Identify growth levers: pricing, selection, promotions, channel expansion, partnerships.

2. Category Development

  • Deeply understand customer behavior, competition and market trends to define category strategy.
  • Build a differentiated product portfolio by identifying gaps and new opportunities.
  • Work with marketing, product, and supply teams to drive category visibility and adoption.

3. Business & Operations Excellence

  • Ensure seamless inventory planning, demand forecasting, and supply chain coordination.
  • Improve operational KPIs fill rate, order accuracy, delivery timelines, returns, and customer NPS.
  • Drive process improvements and build scalable operating systems.

4. Vendor & Partner Management

  • Build strong relationships with vendors, manufacturers, and external partners.
  • Negotiate commercials, pricing terms, SLAs, and promotional deals.

5. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Marketing, Product, Finance, Supply, and Customer Experience teams.
  • Provide insights and business cases to support decision-making.

Preferred candidate profile

1. Must-Have Experience

  • 4 to 5+ years

    in category management, business operations, D2C/e-commerce, or startup environments.
  • Experience as a

    founder/co-founder

    or working in D2C brands/startups (boAt, Mamaearth, Mokobara, Meesho, UC, Wakefit competitors, etc.).
  • Strong P&L understanding and comfort with numbers and analytics.
  • Hands-on operator with bias for action and ability to deliver in fast-moving scenarios.

2. Education

  • Graduate/Post-Graduate from a Tier-1 institute.

3. Skills

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and business acumen.
  • Expertise in Excel/Sheets, data interpretation, and building business models.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management.
  • Hustle mindset with ownership, resilience, and a passion for building.
