We are seeking an experienced Safety Officer to oversee and manage comprehensive safety protocols for a complex high-rise construction project. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of workplace safety across multiple concurrent construction activities including structural works, piling, rock anchoring, excavation, and finishing operations.
Key ResponsibilitiesSafety Management & Compliance
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety management systems for high-rise construction operations
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal safety regulations (OSHA, local building codes, and industry standards)
- Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments across all work areas
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of safety regulations and best practices for high-rise construction
Specialized Work Area Oversight
- Piling Operations: Monitor deep foundation work, crane operations, and heavy machinery safety protocols
- Rock Anchoring: Oversee drilling operations, anchor installation, and structural stability procedures
- Excavation Works: Manage excavation safety, shoring systems, confined space protocols, and soil stability monitoring
- High-Rise Construction: Implement fall protection systems, crane safety, material hoisting, and working-at-height protocols
- Finishing Works: Coordinate safety measures during interior/exterior finishing phases
Training & Communication
- Conduct safety orientations for new workers and subcontractors
- Deliver toolbox talks and specialized safety training sessions
- Coordinate with project managers, foremen, and subcontractors on safety requirements
- Maintain clear communication channels for safety-related issues and emergency procedures
Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare and maintain detailed safety documentation, incident reports, and compliance records
- Investigate accidents and near-miss incidents, providing comprehensive reports and corrective action plans
- Track safety metrics and KPIs, providing regular reports to project management
- Coordinate with insurance representatives and regulatory inspectors as required
Emergency Response
- Develop and implement emergency response procedures specific to high-rise construction hazards
- Coordinate with local emergency services and maintain emergency contact protocols
- Conduct emergency drills and evacuation procedures
Required Qualifications
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred
- Current OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification (minimum)
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent professional certification preferred
- First Aid/CPR certification required
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 8-10 years of safety officer experience in commercial construction
- Demonstrated experience with high-rise construction projects (10+ stories)
- Hands-on experience managing safety for: Piling and deep foundation operations Rock anchoring and ground stabilization work Large-scale excavation projects Multi-phase construction finishing operations
- Experience with tower cranes, material hoists, and construction elevators
Technical Skills
- Thorough knowledge of OSHA construction standards (29 CFR 1926)
- Proficiency in safety management software and documentation systems
- Understanding of structural engineering principles related to construction safety
- Familiarity with geotechnical considerations in excavation and foundation work
- Knowledge of fall protection systems, scaffolding, and temporary structures
