Job Description

Sense International India, also known as Sense India, was established in 1997 as the first and only non-governmental organisation to support the development of comprehensive services for people with deafblindness and multiple disabilities throughout India. Sense India works in partnership with persons with deafblindness, their families, carers and professionals to ensure that everyone facing challenges because of deafblindness has access to advice, opportunities and support, we’ve been making an impact for last 27 years. We work with local, national and international partners, including governments to provide innovative and practical solutions.

Job purpose:

Working closely with the Manager- Communications and the Public Engagement (fundraising) team, the Assistant Manager - Communications along with the Communication Manager will be responsible to drive forward our internal and external communications activity so that we are able to engage with our supporters and stakeholders proactively and consistently. This will raise our profile and build influence with key stakeholders and support fundraising success.  

Sense India has a small, growing communications and fundraising team. The post holder will be an important member of this team and work closely with other team members (and consultants) who specialise in communications across platforms, channels and formats.


Main Responsibilities:

1.   Global Resource Hub on Deafblindness

1.1. Research and gather information, resources, and materials on deafblindness from various sources.

 

1.2. Identify appropriate and relevant information on deafblindness and multiple disabilities to put/publish/sign post on the Global Resource Hub. Liaise with the global resource hub team at Sense International for uploading and publication of accessible documents.

 

1.3. Adapt documents, reports, and other materials into accessible digital formats as well as other accessible formats (Braille, large print, audio) for the deafblind community.

 

1.4. Review, edit, and proofread documents to meet clarity, consistency, and accessibility standards (WCAG international standard).

 

1.5. Maintain a well-organized and up-to-date database of accessible documents and resources.

 

2.   Digital Communications

 

2.1. Coordinate with digital engagement team to deliver digital content and campaigns for Sense India that can be shared on global channels to grow our digital presence through the website, e-news and social media channels.

 

2.2. Develop and manage a database of supporters and partners for targeted communications and enhance engagement for fundraising across various platforms.

 

2.3. Support in development of content for Campaigns on our website and social media platforms.

 

2.4. Support in developing social media creatives and content focusing on brand building, engagement and to increase traffic on all platforms.

3.   Materials and publications

3.1. Ensure that Sense India’s brand is used consistently, appropriately and in alignment with branding guidelines, including our visual and written identity. Ensure that branding is conveyed to all staff internally and externally.

 

3.2. Support in developing content for Sense India’s Annual Report and quarterly Newsletters and accompanying materials 

 

3.3. Source and liaise with external suppliers including graphic designers and printers to fulfil our publication requirements that adhere to our brand and values.

 

3.4.  Create other promotional materials as needed with available design software.

4.   Content Management

 

4.1. Produce accurate, consistent and powerful copy and content for use on various channels including web, videos and publications

 

4.2. Ensure all processes and procedures are followed for collecting, storing and using any content (photos, videos and stories) so that we are fully compliant with data protection and safeguarding regulations.

 

4.3. Work with teams and freelancers to collect and source high quality photographs, videos and stories that help produce compelling content for all communications channels.

 

5.   General

 

5.1. Manage enquiries and requests for information by the general public in relation to Sense India’s work and direct to the appropriate department 

 

5.2. Work within agreed income and expenditure budgets, being accountable for all spending within agreed areas of operation.

 

5.3. Work with senior team to help improve internal communications so that staff feel valued, understand their role within the organisation and are inspired to be the best they can be within it

 

5.4. Carry out other duties within the scope, spirit and purpose of the post as requested by the line manager.

 

Person Specification

1. Graduation and above, preferably in Mass Communications, Development Communication or any other related field. 

2. Minimum 3-4 years’ experience in similar position in NGO/ INGO/ Media/ Advertising agencies.

3. Experience in digital fundraising and digital communication would be an added advantage.

4. Strong creative, conceptual and strategic thinking skills

5. Ability to be a self-starter and think proactively.

6. Conversant with relevant software related to designing and DTP work

7. Excellent storytelling skills with fluency in written and spoken English.

8. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as a member of a team
