Job Description: Assembly Operator (Chassis / Sub-Assembly / Engine Assembly)Location: Commercial Vehicle Manufacturing Plant Department: Production / Assembly Position: Assembly Operator Reports to: Line Supervisor / Production Engineer 1. Job SummaryThe Assembly Operator is responsible for carrying out chassis, sub-assembly and engine assembly operations on the production line as per standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety guidelines and quality requirements. The role ensures smooth assembly flow, adherence to takt time, and delivery of defect-free components and vehicles. 2. Key ResponsibilitiesA. Chassis AssemblyAssemble chassis components such as cross members, suspension parts, brake lines, fuel systems, steering components, and electrical harnesses. Perform torque tightening using pneumatic, hydraulic and electronic tools. Conduct visual and functional checks at every stage of assembly. Ensure correct fitment of aggregates as per drawings and SOP. B. Sub-AssemblyPrepare and assemble sub-components (e.g., axles, brake assemblies, steering sub-assemblies, cabin parts). Handle pre-assembly of brackets, clamps, hoses, and fittings. Verify dimensions, alignment, and orientation of parts before supplying to main line. Maintain FIFO and material handling discipline. C. Engine AssemblyAssemble engine components including cylinder head, intake/exhaust systems, fuel systems, belts, alternators, mountings and sensors. Follow torque charts and sequence protocols for critical assemblies. Check clearances, oil levels, and perform leak tests if required. Maintain cleanliness standards for engine assembly zones. 3. General ResponsibilitiesAdhere to standardized work instructions and takt time requirements. Ensure safe working practices and follow all EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) guidelines. Report abnormalities, part shortages or equipment issues to supervisors immediately. Maintain 5S in the work area (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain). Support quality initiatives such as Poka-Yoke, Kaizen and line improvements. Conduct basic preventive maintenance on tools and equipment. Complete production documentation, checklists, and quality reports. 4. Skills & CompetenciesKnowledge of automobile components and assembly processes. Ability to read basic engineering drawings and follow SOPs. Skilled in using torque wrenches, pneumatic tools, hand tools and gauges. Understanding of quality standards such as torque values, fitment, alignment and inspection. Strong teamwork, communication and time-management abilities. 5. Qualification & ExperienceITI / Diploma in Mechanical, Automobile, Fitter, Motor Mechanic or related trade. 0–3 years of experience in automobile, commercial vehicle or manufacturing industry (Freshers can apply). Experience in chassis, engine or sub-assembly is an added advantage. 6. Physical RequirementsAbility to stand for long hours on the production line. Capability to lift components as per safety limits. Good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.
