Primary job title (standardized): Consultant Urologist
Role & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality on-site outpatient and inpatient urology care: assess, diagnose, and manage a broad spectrum of urological conditions including stone disease, prostate disorders, urinary infections, and malignancies.
- Perform and lead surgical procedures—endourology (PCNL, URS), TURP, cystoscopy, and basic laparoscopic urology—ensuring adherence to perioperative safety and infection-control protocols.
- Manage emergency urology presentations and participate in structured on-call rotas to ensure 24/7 patient coverage and timely escalation of complex cases.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary care: collaborate with oncology, nephrology, radiology, anaesthesia and critical care teams for comprehensive patient pathways and tumor boards as needed.
- Supervise and mentor junior doctors, residents, and nursing staff; contribute to clinical governance through case reviews, audit, and quality-improvement initiatives.
- Maintain accurate medical records, informed-consent processes, and follow-up plans; support outpatient documentation, coding and compliance with regulatory standards.
Skills & Qualifications
Must-Have
- MBBS with recognized specialty qualification in Urology (MCh Urology or DNB Urology) or equivalent; valid registration with the Indian medical council/state medical council.
- Minimum 3 years of post-specialty clinical experience in a hospital/tertiary care setting with demonstrable exposure to endourology and common urological surgeries.
- Strong technical skills in cystoscopy, TURP, PCNL/URS and perioperative management, plus excellent clinical judgement and patient communication.
Preferred
- Fellowship or focused training in endourology, reconstructive urology, pediatric urology or minimally invasive/laparoscopic urology.
- Prior experience in teaching, clinical audits, research publications, or leading a urology unit in a high-volume centre.
- Certifications such as Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and experience with hospital quality systems and EMR platforms.
