Textile Designer

Key Responsibilities

Design and Development

• Design Development:

  Create unique, original textile designs, patterns, renders, and graphics for a range of soft home furnishing products, including upholstery, bedding, curtains, cushions, and throws.

• Color and Material Selection:

  Select appropriate colors, patterns, materials, and finishes, ensuring they align with the brand aesthetic, considering production processes (e.g., printing, weaving, embroidery), and current market trends.

• Trend Research:

  Proactively stay informed about the latest and emerging trends, innovations, materials, and colors in textile design and the broader home furnishings industry.

• Presentation:

  Develop and create compelling design concepts, mood boards, and presentations, swatches for review by clients, internal stakeholders, and merchandising teams.

Technical and Production

• Technical Specifications:

  Prepare high-quality digital artwork and comprehensive technical specifications for manufacturing. This includes pattern repeats, color separations, scale, and ensuring designs are correctly prepared for printing or weaving (e.g., preparing CAD files).

• Collaboration:

  Work closely and collaboratively with internal teams, including Production, Sourcing, and Merchandising, to ensure designs are technically practical, cost-effective, and meet brand and commercial requirements.

• Quality Control:

  Participate in the review and approval of strike-offs, samples, and prototypes to ensure final products meet the required quality standards, color accuracy, and are prepared smoothly for mass production and dispatch.

• Coordination:

  Coordinate with the client's teams for design approvals and sample selections.

Qualifications

• Education:

  A Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification in Textile Design, Surface Pattern Design, or a related design field is typically required.

• Software Proficiency:

  Demonstrated high proficiency in industry-standard textile design software, including

  Adobe Illustrator

  and

  Adobe Photoshop

  . Knowledge of CAD software relevant to textile design is a plus.

• Experience:

  Proven experience as a Textile Designer, with a strong portfolio showcasing work specifically within the

  home furnishings

  sector (soft furnishings is highly desirable).

• Technical Knowledge:

  Solid understanding of various textile manufacturing processes, such as digital and rotary printing, weaving (dobby/jacquard), knitting, and dyeing techniques.

• Skills:

  Excellent eye for color, texture, and pattern. Strong organizational, time management, and presentation skills.
