Job Description

  • Preparation and timely filing of GST, and other statutory returns (monthly/quarterly/annually)
  • Accurate computation of monthly/quarterly/annual tax liabilities
  • Verification of ledgers, invoices, and tax entries in the accounting system

B. Notices, Litigation & Show Cause Notices

  • Review, analyse, and interpret notices, demand orders, and show-cause notices issued under GST, VAT or other applicable tax laws.
  • Draft professional replies with proper supporting data, legal provisions, and justification.
  • Maintain a complete tracker for submissions, deadlines, hearings, and case status.

C. Practical Exposure in Legal Appeal (litigation)

  • Attend court hearings, tribunal proceedings, and departmental hearings (as authorised) related to tax matters.
  • Coordinate with legal counsels, tax consultants, advocates, and external advisers for preparing case files, documentation, and hearing briefs.
  • Support the organisation in arbitration proceedings where taxation or financial disputes are involved.
  • Assist in preparing affidavits, statements, replies, and legal documentation as per counsels requirement.
  • Ensure timely follow-up on hearing dates, orders, and compliance directions issued by authorities.

D. Audit, Assessments & Departmental Proceedings

  • Provide end-to-end support for GST audits, VAT, ST, departmental inspections, and other assessments.
  • Collate, verify, and present relevant data during audits and hearings.
  • Address audit observations and ensure timely closure of queries.
  • Participate in hearings before tax officers along with senior management or authorised representatives.

E. Tax Documentation & Record Management

  • Maintain updated records of returns, reports, challans, notices, replies, case files, and assessment orders.
  • Ensure both digital and physical tax archives are complete, accurate, and audit-ready.
  • Track legal documents, pending cases, refund applications, and compliance registers.

F. Data Collection & Inter-Department Coordination

  • Collect required data from Accounts, Procurement, HR, Sales, Projects, Legal and Operations teams for filing, audit or notice replies.
  • Validate data accuracy and ensure alignment with tax and legal requirements.
  • Prepare MIS reports on compliance status, notices, case progress, and statutory deadlines.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

  • In-depth understanding of GST, Tax litigation, and assessment procedures.
  • Practical exposure to court visits, tribunal hearings, arbitration, and legal documentation.
  • Strong analytical and drafting skills for notices, replies, and submissions.
  • Proficiency with MS Excel, GST portal, and accounting ERPs.
  • Excellent coordination skills for working with internal teams and external counsels.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage multiple deadlines.

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Qualification: B. Com / M. Com / MBA (Finance) / CA Inter / CMA Inter or equivalent.
  • Experience: 10+ years in taxation, compliance, audits, notices handling, and basic legal coordination.
  • Exposure to tribunal hearings, legal drafting, and arbitration support will be an added advantage.
