Job Purpose/ Summary

The Billet Preparation Section Engineer is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all engineering and operational activities related to billet handling, cutting, heating, and preparation prior to rolling or forging. This role ensures that billets meet the required specifications and quality standards while maintaining safety, efficiency, and equipment reliability.

Oversee billet cutting, reheating, and descaling operations.Ensure billets meet dimensional and surface quality standards.Monitor and maintain billet handling systems such as conveyors, cranes, and furnaces.Coordinate with production planning to align billet preparation with rolling schedules.Troubleshoot process issues and implement corrective actions.Maintain documentation for process parameters, inspections, and maintenance.Lead safety initiatives and ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations.Train and supervise billet preparation operators and technicians

Principal Accountabilities

Supervise billet cutting, heating, and surface cleaning to ensure readiness for rolling.Monitor billet reheating furnaces, ensuring temperature uniformity and energy efficiency.Inspect billets for surface defects and coordinate corrective actions like grinding or rejection.Coordinate with production planning to align billet preparation with downstream operations.Maintain billet handling systems—cranes, conveyors, and transfer mechanisms—for smooth flow.Ensure compliance with safety protocols and environmental standards during all operations.Document process parameters, downtime, and quality checks for continuous improvement.Lead and train operators and technicians, promoting skill development and operational discipline.Collaborate with maintenance teams to minimize equipment downtime and improve reliability.Implement process improvements to reduce waste, improve throughput, and enhance billet quality.
