Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Platform - Payments)

.We are seeking an experienced backend engineer to play a critical role in designing and building a scalable, highly available payments platform. This role involves shaping the architecture, developing new services, and ensuring operational excellence across payment systems that support both retail and institutional clients. You will collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, designers, and senior leadership to turn strategic visions into actionable roadmaps. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, has deep technical expertise in backend systems, and is passionate about creating a secure, reliable, and high-performance financial platform. Accountabilities:
- Architect and develop backend systems for the payments platform, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security
- Collaborate with management, stakeholders, engineers, and product teams to define technical roadmaps and deliver strategic initiatives
- Build new services and maintain existing ones using modern languages such as Golang or Java
- Write high-quality, well-tested code and debug complex technical issues, improving system performance and operational efficiency
- Review feature designs across the organization to ensure architectural clarity, security, and operational integrity
- Articulate long-term visions for system scaling, maintenance, and team development
- Contribute to and guide teams on best practices in software engineering, architecture, and product development
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering with significant backend development expertise
- Proven experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production services in a service-oriented architecture
- Strong proficiency in Golang, Java, or similar backend technologies
- Solid understanding of system design, cloud technologies, and best practices for high-performance distributed systems
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams to turn product and technical visions into tangible deliverables
- Strong problem-solving skills, analytical thinking, and ability to debug complex systems
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a bias toward transparent and open collaboration
- Nice to have: Experience with blockchain technologies, containerization (Docker), relational and NoSQL databases (Postgres, MongoDB, DynamoDB), and A/B testing frameworks
