Job TitleSr. Civil Design Engineer – Rooftop & Utility Scale Solar PV PlantLocationExperience: 4+ Years in Solar Civil and Electrical field
Job Overview
The Civil Design Engineer will be responsible for designing and overseeing the civilengineering aspects of utility-scale solar PV projects. This role requires expertise in structural design, pile foundation design, RCC control room design, WBM roads, and overall foundation design. The engineer will work closely with project managers, electrical engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure that civil designs meet project requirements, safety standards, and are optimized for performance and cost effectiveness. Proficiency in structural analysis software, particularly STAAD Pro, is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Structural Design:
- Design and analyse solar PV mounting structures, including both fixed-tilt and tracker systems.
- Ensure structural designs meet relevant codes, standards, and site-specific conditions,
including wind, seismic loads.
- Optimize designs for cost, durability, and ease of construction.
- Pile Foundation Design:
- Design pile foundations for solar PV mounting structures, considering soil conditions and load-bearing capacities.
- Perform geotechnical analysis to ensure proper foundation sizing and stability.
- Coordinate with geotechnical engineers for soil investigation reports and incorporate
findings into the design.
- RCC (Reinforced Cement Concrete) Control Room Design:
- Design RCC control rooms and ancillary buildings, ensuring compliance with safety,
durability, and project-specific requirements.
- Ensure designs are compatible with electrical and mechanical systems, such as transformer foundations, switchgear rooms, and other related infrastructure.
- Foundation Design:
- Design foundations for solar inverters, transformers, and other heavy equipment, ensuring stability and long-term performance.
- Consider soil conditions, load distribution, and material usage in foundation designs.
- WBM (Water Bound Macadam) Road Design:
- Design access and internal roads for solar plants using WBM, ensuring durability and ease of access for maintenance vehicles.
- Optimize road designs for minimal environmental impact while meeting project
requirements.
- Software Proficiency:
- Utilize STAAD Pro for structural analysis and design, ensuring that all civil structures are optimized for performance and safety.
- Collaborate with other engineering teams using various CAD and design software tools.
- Project Coordination:
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including electrical engineers, project managers, and contractors to ensure smooth project execution.
- Provide technical support during construction and handle any site-related issues or
adjustments to designs.
- Compliance & Standards:
- Ensure all civil designs comply with local, national, and international building codes,
environmental regulations, and health and safety standards.
- Conduct regular design reviews and inspections to ensure compliance with project goals and industry best practices.
- Reporting & Documentation:
- Prepare detailed design reports, drawings, and documentation for all civil aspects of the project.
- Provide technical specifications and bill of quantities (BOQ) for civil engineering works.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s preferred).
- 3 to 4+ years of experience in civil design for utility-scale solar PV plants.
- Strong proficiency in STAAD Pro, AutoCAD, and other relevant design tools.
- Experience with structural design, including pile foundations, RCC buildings, and road design.
- Knowledge of soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering principles.
- Familiarity with local and international construction standards and codes.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Experience with construction and site supervision is an added advantage.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of renewable energy projects, specifically solar PV plants.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work under tight deadlines.
- Experience working in large-scale infrastructure projects, particularly in renewable energy or power plants.
