Sr. Design Engineer (API6A & 17D)

Job Title: Senior Design Engineer – API 6A / API 17D

Location: Pune

Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline

Required Experience: 5 - 12 years

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Engineer / Senior Design Engineer with extensive experience in the design and development of equipment in accordance with API 6A and/or API 17D standards.

The successful candidate will lead the design and engineering of subsea and/or surface wellhead, tree systems, and pressure control equipment. This role requires in-depth knowledge of mechanical engineering, design validation, and industry codes relevant to oilfield equipment. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the mechanical design and development of pressure-containing and pressure-controlling equipment such as wellheads, Christmas trees, valves, connectors, and actuators.

• Ensure designs comply with API 6A, API 17D, and other applicable standards (ASME, NACE, ISO, DNV, etc.).

• Prepare and review engineering calculations, material selection, finite element analysis (FEA), tolerance stacks, and technical documentation.

• Work with cross-functional teams (manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and testing) to ensure product feasibility and manufacturability.

• Generate and review detailed CAD drawings, 3D models, and BOMs.

• Provide engineering support during product manufacturing, assembly, FAT, SIT, and customer inspections.

• Participate in design reviews, risk assessments (e.g., FMEA), and failure investigations.

• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to the design team.

• Support project management in estimating timelines and engineering resource requirements.

• Stay up to date with industry developments, materials, and engineering best practices

Experience:

• 8+ years of engineering experience in oil & gas, preferably in subsea or surface pressure control equipment.

• Proven experience designing products per API 6A and/or API 17D. • Hands-on knowledge of SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor, or similar CAD software.

• Proficiency in FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus) and stress analysis techniques.

• Understanding of pressure vessel design (ASME Section VIII), corrosion mechanisms (NACE MR0175), and seal design.

• Experience with ERP systems and engineering documentation workflows. Skills:
