The Opportunity

The

Enterprise and Platform Engineering

teams support our largest customers bydelivering scalable, secure, and reliable infrastructure for engineering teams working onadvanced CAD and Product Data Management (PDM) workflows.As a

Principal Engineer

, you will be instrumental in designing and developinghigh-performance Java solutions for the Onshape SaaS platform. You’ll work in acloud-native environment, contributing to a large and evolving codebase, and ensuringthe platform’s scalability, reliability, and maintainability.

In this role, you will:

• Design and implement robust, efficient, and scalable Java code for a modern
  

SaaS platform.

• Troubleshoot and optimize performance across distributed cloud-native
  

systems.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality product
  

increments every three weeks.

• Mentor junior engineers and interns, fostering a culture of technical excellence
  

and continuous learning.

• Influence architectural decisions, conduct code reviews, and promote

What You Need To Succeed

• 8+ years of experience building distributed, data-intensive systems using
  

Java

and NoSQL databases like

MongoDB

.

• Deep expertise in Java and its ecosystem, with strong foundations in
  

computer science fundamentals

, including algorithms and data structures.

• Proven experience developing multi-tenant backend systems, RESTful
  

APIs

, and services using

Java, Spring Framework

, and

MongoDB

.

• Strong skills in troubleshooting, debugging, and performance tuning in
  

cloud-native environments.

• Experience building solutions for enterprise customers, addressing
  

complex needs around

security, delegation

, and

collaboration

.

• Demonstrated ability to mentor and support junior engineers through code
  

reviews, coaching, and technical training.

• Ability to lead the design and implementation of complex software
  

systems, ensuring high-quality code and adherence to best practices.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience, with a
  

solid grasp of

data structures, algorithms
