Software Development Engineer - II (Backend)

About Zoca

• Own and architect major backend services and APIs
• Build scalable, high-performance microservices handling millions of requests
• Design efficient database schemas and optimize query performance
• Lead technical decisions on architecture, system design, and infrastructure
• Implement robust error handling, monitoring, and observability
• Integrate with third-party APIs and internal microservices
• Mentor junior engineers and drive code quality through reviews
• Collaborate with frontend, product, and AI teams to deliver features
  

Must Have

• 3-5 years of experience in backend development
• Strong proficiency in backend development with at least one backend language and framework (Node.js/NestJS, Python/FastAPI/Django, Java/Spring, Go)
• Strong understanding of RESTful API design, microservices architecture, and system design
• Experience building production-grade, horizontally scalable backend systems
• Solid knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases and caching strategies
• Understanding of distributed systems, event-driven architecture, and message queues
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS), Docker, and CI/CD pipelines
• Ability to make architectural decisions and lead projects end-to-end
• Experience mentoring junior engineers and conducting code reviews
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to performance optimization
  

Nice To Have

• Experience with NestJS, Node.js, Nx, TypeScript, Python
• Knowledge of async programming, event streaming, and background job processing
• Understanding of database optimization, indexing strategies, and query performance tuning
• Experience with API gateway patterns, rate limiting, and authentication systems (OAuth, JWT)
• Exposure to AI/ML model integration and working with LLMs
• Working knowledge of cloud (AWS/GCP/Azure) and monitoring tools (DataDog, Sentry, CloudWatch)
• Experience with payment gateway integrations or fintech systems
• Open source contributions / technical writing / side projects
