Summary
  • The Silicon Preparation Unit (SPU) consists of two sections:
    • Recycle Silicon Section (RSS)
    • Pre-Growth Section (PGS)
  • Recycle Silicon Section

    : Recycles silicon generated in-process.
  • Pre-Growth Section

    :
    • Prepares the Master Dopant
    • Prepares Crucibles for Growing Section
    • Prepares Charging Hoppers for Growing Section
  • Silicon Recycle Section Subsections: Crushing & Cleaning.
  • Pre-Growth Section Subsections: Crucible Charge Dopant Management & Hopper Charging.
  • Key operations to be managed in SPU include:
    • Manpower Management (Full Time Employee & Temps)
    • Manual / Semi-Auto / Auto Operations
    • Material Handling (Poly Silicon, Recycle Silicon, Crucibles, Crushers, Wet & Dry Cleaners, ASRS, MES, Weighing, Technical Calculations of Dopant, Conveyors, Pumps, Drive Trains, Utilities, etc.)
  • The Shift Engineer will be placed in either the Recycle Silicon Section or Pre-Growth Section, with potential to lead both in the future.

Important Note
  • As this is a startup plant, the role may require working beyond normal hours to resolve startup issues and perform troubleshooting.
  • Strong leadership skills, ownership mindset, and a team player attitude are essential. The candidate should demonstrate company values and maintain good relations with the shop floor team, cross-functional teams, and stakeholders in a high-workload, startup environment.
  • Demonstrate passion in leading the startup of the section with a focus on zero safety incidents.
  • Lead from the front by working hands-on with the shop floor team and operating equipment.
  • Able to handle large teams amicably and align them towards operational goals of the Ingot & Wafer Business.
  • Take thorough training in emergency response planning and develop capabilities to handle emergency situations such as major leakage, fire, explosion, gas release, earthquake, etc., ensuring minimal or no damage to people, equipment, or environment.

Job Accountabilities (Duties and Responsibilities)
Safety
  • Zero Lost Time Cases (LTC)
  • Accept work permits with 100% compliance for all engineering or non-routine tasks as per standard, with proper risk assessment attached
  • Special focus on line break, hot work, and confined space jobs
  • Zero tolerance for unsafe behaviour
  • Demonstrate and lead strict adherence to safety standards and compliance on the shop floor
  • Ensure operations meet health, safety, environment, and fire standards
  • Take periodic Gemba rounds and control unsafe acts and conditions
  • Lead audits, visits, and documentation
Production
  • Lead startup of section with a focus on zero safety incidents, zero quality incidents, and zero grower stoppage due to lack of quality polysilicon
  • Develop a process/system-based culture in operations management
  • Ensure output as per production plan
  • Achieve best inventory accuracy for the section (physical stock vs. system stock)
  • Ensure 100% posting of batches and 100% material consumption via MES & ERP
  • Ensure 5S on the shop floor
  • Release periodic production reports as per governance systems
  • Participate in periodic plant review meetings
  • Lead and achieve benchmark OEE
  • Lead audits and documentation
  • Handover shift charge as per HOTO guidelines, plan & ensure 100% availability of raw material, packing material & consumables for the next shift
Quality
  • Operations/tasks as per documented and approved procedures
  • Ensure input & output meet approved quality specifications
  • Eliminate contamination through best shop floor discipline and controls
  • Ensure operations within standard operating conditions (within aim +/- control limits)
  • Provide engineering solutions through data analysis for quality assurance, customer complaints, process management, and troubleshooting
Cost
  • Eliminate losses and improve equipment yield by demonstrating design capabilities
Team / Manpower
  • Develop the teams fundamental engineering knowledge of equipment in your section
  • Coach manpower on operational nuances

Skills Required (Knowledge and Skills)
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PPT, Teams, Outlook, etc.)
  • Strong in implementing SOPs, risk assessments, standard operating conditions, and CTQs on the shop floor
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in Gujarati preferred
  • Good communication skills in English and Hindi (writing and verbal)
  • Added advantage: Minitab, Six Sigma, QC Tools, Kaizen, Statistical Process Control, TQM, ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, 50001

Key Attributes (Experience and Qualifications)
  • Experience:

    3 to 5 years
  • Exposure to working in a large metal plant
  • Experience working with teams of 25 or more people is desirable
  • Familiarity with charging metals and handling large volumes of metal pieces
  • Qualification:

    BE Engineering in Mechanical, Production, or Chemical
  • Industry: Metal melting, foundries
