Senior Software Engineer

Team Purpose

Join the Windows Servicing & Delivery (WSD) team, where you will ensure the reliability, security, and quality of Windows Server releases. Windows Server powers mission-critical workloads across enterprises and governments worldwide, and your work will directly impact how customers trust, deploy, and scale their server environments. From clustering and storage to file systems and Active Directory, you will tackle complex engineering challenges to keep one of Microsoft’s flagship products resilient, secure, and future-ready.

Job Purpose

As a Windows Server Servicing Engineer, you will focus on improving the quality of server releases while ensuring customer trust through timely fixes. You will reproduce and debug customer incidents (ICMs), resolve security vulnerabilities, and deliver high-quality updates across core server components. This opportunity will allow you to:

Responsibilities

• Own the servicing, reliability, and security of Windows Server components, including clustering, storage, file systems, and Active Directory.
• Troubleshoot and resolve customer ICMs and live site issues with minimal disruption.
• Investigate and fix security vulnerabilities across core server features, ensuring timely delivery and compliance.
• Deliver regression-free, compatibility-safe fixes to improve the quality of Windows Server releases.
• Participate in postmortem and root-cause analysis to strengthen reliability and engineering practices.
• Collaborate with escalation engineers, feature teams, and global partners to debug, test, and ship servicing updates.
• Drive continuous improvements through tools, diagnostics, and automation to scale servicing efficiency.
  

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or related field AND 1+ year(s) technical experience.

• OR equivalent experience.
• 4+ years technical experience in operating systems, systems programming, or enterprise server environments.
  

Preferred (PQs)

• 5+ years technical experience in operating systems, systems programming, or enterprise server environments.
• 8+ years of experience in Windows Server components such as clustering, storage, file systems, or Active Directory.
• Proficiency in C++/C# or equivalent systems programming languages.
• Experience debugging multi-threaded, distributed, and large-scale server applications.
• Solid track record of delivering security fixes and servicing updates in enterprise software.
• Familiarity with Windows internals and enterprise server deployment scenarios.
