Embedded Engineer – Optical Payload Readout Electronics specialist

Location: Hyderabad / Full Time

With deep expertise in optics, optomechanics, and space-grade hardware, we design cutting-edge payloads that push the boundaries of Earth observation, astrophysics, and remote sensing. We are now seeking a talented Embedded Engineer to lead the development of readout electronics for our next-generation optical payloads, ensuring seamless integration between optomechanical systems and onboard data processing.

Key Responsibilities

1. Design and Development of Readout Electronics:

- Architect, prototype, and validate embedded systems for high-speed readout electronics interfacing with optical sensors (e.g., CMOS/CCD detectors, photodiodes).

- Optimize signal conditioning, analog-to-digital conversion (ADC), and low-noise amplification for high-fidelity data acquisition in space environments.

- Implement power-efficient solutions aligned with CubeSat size, weight, and power (SWaP) constraints.

2. Firmware and Embedded Software:

- Develop firmware for microcontrollers (e.g., ARM Cortex, RISC-V) or FPGAs to manage sensor readout, data buffering, and communication with onboard processors.

- Design drivers for I2C, SPI, UART, or CAN interfaces to enable communication between optical payload components and the satellite bus.

- Ensure robust error handling, radiation tolerance, and fault recovery mechanisms.

3. Integration with Optical Payloads:

- Collaborate with optics and optomechanics teams to define electrical requirements, synchronization, and mechanical constraints.

- Characterize and mitigate EMI/RFI interference between readout electronics and sensitive optical systems.

4. Testing and Validation:

- Conduct environmental testing (thermal, vacuum, vibration) to qualify hardware for space missions.

- Develop automated test benches for functional verification and performance benchmarking.

5. Documentation and Compliance:

- Prepare schematics, PCB layouts, and design documentation compliant with ECSS, NASA, or CubeSat standards.

- Support certification processes for flight-ready hardware.

Qualifications

- Education:

- Bachelor’s/Master’s in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.

- Experience:

- 3+ years in embedded systems design, preferably with sensor readout electronics (optical, imaging, or radiation sensors).

- Proficiency in PCB design tools (Altium, KiCad, Eagle) and simulation tools (LTspice, MATLAB/Simulink).

- Hands-on experience with microcontrollers, FPGAs, and high-speed digital design.

- Familiarity with space-grade components and radiation-hardening techniques (e.g., TID mitigation).

- Technical Skills:

- C/C++ for embedded systems; Python/Shell scripting for testing automation.

- Knowledge of communication protocols (I2C, SPI, SpaceWire) and bus architectures.

- Experience with low-power design and EMI/EMC compliance.

- Soft Skills:

- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams.

- Excellent communication for translating optical system requirements into electrical designs.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with CubeSat missions or small satellite projects.

- Background in optical/photonics systems (e.g., spectrometers, LiDAR).

- Knowledge of radiation effects on electronics and mitigation strategies.

- Familiarity with CubeSat standards (e.g., CubeSat Design Specification).
