Job Summary We are seeking a talented Optical Engineer with a strong background in photonics to join our innovative team at Eon Space Labs. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in designing, assembling, and testing optical payloads for satellite and drone-based systems. Utilizing advanced optical design software such as Zemax, you will develop high-performance optical systems tailored for earth observation applications, including multispectral and hyperspectral imaging. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced startup environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive advancements in space and defense technology. Responsibilities Design Optical Payloads: Develop optical systems for satellites and drones, including lens design for various spectral bands (Visible, Short-Wave Infrared, Mid-Wave Infrared, and Long-Wave Infrared) using Zemax or similar optical design software. Assemble and Test Systems: Build and test optical payloads to ensure they meet performance specifications, including conducting environmental testing for space and drone applications to verify reliability under conditions like temperature variations and vibrations. Conduct Simulations and Analyses: Perform optical simulations and analyses, such as ray tracing, wavefront analysis, and thermal management, to optimize system performance under diverse operational conditions. Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with mechanical, electrical, and systems engineers to integrate optical systems into satellite and drone platforms, ensuring compliance with SWaP constraints. Document Processes: Maintain detailed documentation of design processes, test results, and technical specifications to support product development and compliance with industry standards. Drive Innovation: Stay abreast of the latest advancements in optical engineering and photonics, contributing innovative ideas to enhance our payload technologies. Qualifications Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related field. Proficiency in optical design software such as Zemax, Code V, or LightTools. Demonstrated experience in designing, assembling, and testing optical systems. Strong understanding of optics, photonics, and related technologies. Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced startup environment with a proactive and collaborative approach. Preferred Skills Experience designing optical payloads for satellite or drone applications. Knowledge of earth observation technologies, particularly multispectral and hyperspectral imaging systems. Familiarity with Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) constraints in aerospace applications. Expertise in optical design for Visible (VIS), Short-Wave Infrared (SWIR), Mid-Wave Infrared (MWIR), or Long-Wave Infrared (LWIR) spectral bands. Understanding of space-qualified optical components and systems.

Role Description We are in search of a skilled and talented Sr. Mechanical Engineer to join our team of engineers dedicated to developing cutting-edge optomechanical systems for both space-based and ground-based imaging solutions. The ideal candidate should possess a robust background in mechanical engineering, with a primary focus on optomechanical design and analysis. As a Senior Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the design and analysis of optomechanical components and systems for space-based and ground-based imaging systems. This includes selecting materials and manufacturing processes, and conducting structural and thermal analyses to ensure these systems meet stringent performance and reliability criteria. In addition, you will work closely with our team of electrical and software engineers to seamlessly integrate optomechanical systems into our overall imaging solutions. Key Responsibilities: Optomechanical System Design: Design and analyse optomechanical components and systems for space-based and ground-based imaging systems. Material and Process Selection: Select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes for optomechanical components and systems to ensure optimal performance. Structural and Thermal Analyses: Perform rigorous structural and thermal analyses of optomechanical components and systems to meet performance and reliability requirements. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with electrical and software engineers to ensure the smooth integration of optomechanical systems into the overall imaging system. Specification and Documentation: Contribute to the development of optomechanical system specifications and requirements, and participate in the review of design documentation, including drawings and test plans. Testing and Verification: Participate in the testing and verification of optomechanical components and systems. Documentation: Support the development and maintenance of optomechanical system documentation, including drawings, test plans, and technical reports. Qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. A minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in mechanical engineering, with a specific focus on optomechanical design and analysis. Profound knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes for optomechanical components and systems. Experience with structural and thermal analyses of optomechanical systems. Familiarity with the design and analysis of space-based imaging systems is a valuable asset. Outstanding communication and teamwork skills. Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software and analysis tools, such as SolidWorks/Fusion360 and ANSYS.
