Senior Backend Engineer / AI Engineer

Role Overview

We are looking for a Senior Backend / AI Engineer to design and build scalable, production-grade systems for OCR-driven document processing and AI-assisted data extraction.

In this role, you will work on backend architecture, cloud-native services, and AI workflows that power automated tax document ingestion, analysis, and compliance workflows. This is a hands-on engineering role with significant ownership and real-world impact.

Key Responsibilities

Backend & Platform Engineering

• Architect, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Python (Django, Django REST Framework, Flask)
• Design and implement RESTful APIs and microservices for high-volume document workflows
• Ensure backend systems are secure, performant, and production-ready
• Manage PostgreSQL databases, including schema design, migrations, performance tuning, backups, and recovery

OCR & Document Intelligence

• Build and optimize OCR and document processing pipelines using AWS Textract
• Extract structured data from tax documents, invoices, PDFs, and scanned files
• Handle complex document layouts including forms, tables, and multi-page PDFs
• Improve extraction accuracy and reliability through preprocessing and validation logic

AI & LLM Integrations

• Integrate AI/LLM-based solutions using OpenAI APIs
• Implement document Q&A, summarization, and analysis workflows using LangChain and FAISS
• Design scalable embeddings and retrieval pipelines for large document sets

Cloud, DevOps & Reliability

• Deploy and manage applications on AWS / Azure (Linux/Ubuntu environments)
• Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines
• Monitor systems, handle service restarts, and ensure platform stability
• Perform cloud cost optimization and performance tuning
• Troubleshoot production issues and continuously improve reliability and observability

Required Skills & Qualifications

Core Technical Skills

• Strong proficiency in Python
• Hands-on experience with Django, Django REST Framework, and/or Flask
• Proven experience with OCR and document intelligence solutions
• Practical experience using AWS Textract for form and table extraction
• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL
• Experience with AWS and/or Azure
• REST API design and third-party integrations
• Linux server management (Ubuntu)
• Git-based version control

Nice to Have

• Experience with microservices architectures
• Familiarity with Docker and containerized deployments
• Basic front-end understanding (HTML/CSS, Bootstrap)
• Prior experience working with financial, tax, or compliance-driven systems

Experience Level

• 5–10 years of professional experience in backend engineering, AI systems, or document processing platforms
