Job Description

Afcons Infrastructure Limited is an Indian multinational construction and engineering company based in Mumbai. The company provides infrastructure services and is involved in the construction of infrastructure projects such as viaducts, flyovers, metros, bridges, pipelines, roads, ports, barrages, oil and gas projects etc.

Roles and Responsibilities 01

Execute work at section within budget ensuring adherence to quality norms

Preparing work plan for the work fronts in respective section for budget and give intend for materials, manpower and machinery to the respective departments well in advance to achieve targets. Read and understand thoroughly the methodology provided in contract agreement for various major activities and study the construction drawings and contract technical specifications to understand scope of works and its payment entitlements. If any additional works shown in the drawings other than scope of work provided in the contractual technical specifications, immediately inform the site Contract Department to notify the client. Assist Planning Department in preparing segmental methodology for activities to be executed, as per site conditions. Ensure overall delivery of tasks pertaining to section as per timelines, project specifications, AFCONS procedures and quality standards
Identify work to be carried out through PRWs, Subcontract and provide inputs for PRW & Subcontract rate analysis and assist QSS department during rate negotiations with PRWs and Subcontractors. After deployment of PRWs, organize and allocate works to them and motivate them to achieve the planned progress. Preparation of PRW and Subcontractor bills on monthly basis against their work done and send to site QSS department for process and payments. Oversee and ensure that all workmen working safely with all PPEs as per safety norms. Oversee On-site execution of work at various site as per planned budget and specifications. Interact with Site Engineers for the same

Identify opportunities for application of good engineering practices/ innovative practices to enhance quality of delivery, communicate the same to the Construction Manager. record hindrances if any in execution of works and maintain the register and get it signed by client representatives and submit to site Contract department to notify client for EOT.
Oversee section cost control - Completion of section works within budgeted cost. Obtain joint measurements with client representatives for the work done and send it to site QSS for claiming the bill on monthly basis. If any dispute or out of scope of work with client site representative comes up, to take it up with site Contract Manager to notify the client in line with the contract provisions to get the payments as entitled.

Construction Management contd..

Earthwork in Embankment and Allied Works: Overall responsibility for the construction of earthwork in embankment, blanketing works, soil replacement, slope protection works, cross drainage, RUBs, ROBs, RORs, viaduct, pile foundation works, pile cap, pile load tests, diversion works, maintenance of existing road using granular/bituminous items, ability to effectively handle local administrative issues, political and non-political impediments, ability to guide site execution team in the construction of minor bridges, including repair and rehabilitation of structures, ROBs, preparation of monthly comprehensive report of all activities in coordination with the project team.
Superstructure Works: Overall responsibility of fabrication work including erection of fabricated components, monitoring time cycle during execution, nesting plan preparation for indenting of plates for fabrication, Ability to guide superstructure team in conducting welder qualification test as per approved WPS in presence of RDSO and railway officials, conducting trial assembly of fabricated structure as per erection sequence, Regular co-ordination with railway officials to expedite inspection and approval, ensuring work is executed while adhering strictly to safety standards, examining the reconciliation of all materials, resolving technical and design related issues in coordination with H.O/Client.
Balanced Cantilever Bridge: Overall responsibility of the construction of well foundations (Circular/Double-D), well sinking, construction of pile foundations, pre-stressing of box girders, erection of precast segmental box girders, segmental erection of decks on each side of pier, cast-in-place bridges, segment erection with ground cranes, floating cranes or deck-carried lifting frames, self-launching gantry erection, expertise in post-tensioning operations, mid-span closure operations.

Construction Management contd..

Cable-Stayed Bridge: Overall responsibility of the construction of Extradosed/Cable Stayed Bridge of multi-span with one span length of at least 100 m, expertise in pre-stressing operations, assistance in the development of design and drawings and provide technical input as needed for pylon height, span length, choice of main span etc., skilled in budgeting, cost control and work program, able to guide project team in launching, erection of pre-stressed girders, stressing of stay cables, construction of pylons, construction of Cable Stayed Deck portion.
Segment Bridge/Metro Projects: Overall responsibility for the execution and construction of rapid rail transit systems, construction projects involving pre-stressed segment casting and launching, proven track record of executing heavy infrastructure projects, and Metro works(Elevated,on grade), expertise in construction of Pile Foundations, Pre-Stressing activities, managing activities of execution, Casting Yard set-up, casting of superstructure segments, erection of segments, thrust bed, casting of box, progress monitoring, and material manpower planning to achieve the target, managing the project team and sub-contractors/vendors, associated electrical works in metro project, review of monthly program and forecasting, allocating resources to achieve the same.
Roads: Overall responsibility for the execution of large sized EPC projects involving construction of road work, Earthwork, Bituminous/Asphalt/ DBM Road, DLC, PQC works, subbase/base, finishing of shoulder, traffic signs, road marking, metal beam crash barriers, drainage and protective works, RCC retaining walls, Gabion walls, Breast walls, stone pitching for slopes, bridges and viaducts.

Construction Management contd..

Bridges: Able to monitor and guide Construction Manager, Section In-charges and other Project Team members in execution of Well sinking foundation, open pile foundation. land based piling, pier, pier cap, box culverts and of pipe culverts, well cap, abutments, deck slab, box culvert & pipe culvert, cast- in situ- bored, river protection work, earthwork in embankment & pylon s approach road, under pass, railway bridge, viaducts, cable stayed bridge, extra dozed bridge, bridge using balanced cantilever, arch bridge, I girder bridge segment casting & segment launching for elevated road projects fabrication, erection & stressing of stay cables, arch, bridge.
Update daily progress review and inform Project Controller on day-to-day progress

Oversee Optimum Resource Utilization (Manpower, Material and Equipment)

Ensure optimum usage of equipment allocated to the section
Oversee optimum usage of material allocated to section as per construction schedule; Identify areas for waste reduction. Assist with site stores and QSS department to prepare monthly reconciliation of major materials to ensure the wastages well within the budget norms.
Oversee activities of personnel for the section; ensure availability of personnel by raising timely requisitions to the Works Manager

Build and sustain harmonious relationships with external entities

Ensure regular interactions and cordial relations with clients and client peer representatives
Regular and effective Sub-contractor management and development
Support SC/PRW development programs and welfare measures
Maintain cordial relations with local community and its representatives. Handle local community grievances, escalate to Works Manager and Project Manager if necessary

Safety Management

Security and safety of team
Secure safety of local community and individuals directly impacted by construction activities
Maintaining prescribed quality standards related to protection of environment and health
Monitor safety during execution of project adhering to the norms of the clients & HSE policy
Emphasis on zero tolerance regarding safety in execution
Emphasis on safety workshop, safety drills, safety awarenes

Ensure maintaining the documentation for ISO 9001:2015 Audit

Employee Engagement Lesson Learned, seamless communication, PMS, subordinate development initiatives, role clarity, recognition for exceptional performance, enhancement of employee, motivation & commitment, grievance redressal, contribution to learning & development, succession planning

Encouraging a culture of continuous learning and development, and documenting lessons learnt from the project on an ongoing basis.
Implementing a fair and transparent employee performance management system, including timely completion of Annual Performance Appraisals, identification of training needs, and recognition of exceptional performance.
Providing role clarity to subordinates and ensuring they have a clear understanding of their responsibilities as individuals and as a team to accomplish the work assigned.
Grooming, coaching, mentoring, and providing timely assistance to subordinates to enhance their performance and address any grievances they may have.
Providing inputs and support for succession planning of critical roles. Charting out employees future career path along with Project Controller and Business Unit Head.
Developing future leaders as a part of succession planning for critical roles and implementing employee engagement initiatives at the Project Sites, such as the team building initiatives, Innovation, motivation, and commitment, building effective teams

Key Objective of the Job Position

To execute the project as per budget, in accordance with the approved strategies, policies and procedures, quality, safety norms and revenue targets of AFCONS.
To control, monitor and direct the Site Engineers and other team members in execution of the project and achieving operational excellence in all spheres of project management

Education Qualifications

Educational Essential: Bachelor s Degree in Civil Engineering / Diploma in Civil Engineering

Educational Desirable: Master s Degree in Civil Engineering

Computer Software Proficiency

MS Excel, MS Word, Power Point

Experience Range

Minimum 20 to 30 years of experience in projects involving marine bridges construction with at least 10 years of experience in the capacity of Section In-charge.

Work Environment

May have to work long hours, including evenings and weekends. Work in all climatic conditions. Working at outdoors at construction sites so that they can monitor operations and solve problems May need to work extra hours to ensure that the projects meet their deadlines. May need to travel to work sites at domestic or overseas location. Deal & convince all types of people including labour & clients. Maintain a high-level safety standard at work site as civil construction work is risk prone. Maintain a high level of social contact
