Role Overview
We are seeking a responsible and experienced
Safety Officer
to oversee and ensure all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) aspects of solar EPC project(s) at our Gujarat site. The Safety Officer will be responsible for developing and enforcing safety policies, conducting safety audits and inspections, leading incident investigations, promoting safety awareness, and ensuring compliance with statutory and company safety standards across all site activities including civil, electrical, mechanical, and installation works.
Key Roles Responsibilities
1. Safety Planning, Policies Compliance
Develop, implement, and maintain site specific safety plans, policies, procedures, and method statements tailored for solar EPC execution (civil, electrical, mechanical, installation, commissioning).
Ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations, standards and statutory requirements relevant to project site work.
Review and approve safety plans submitted by contractors/subcontractors before mobilization; ensure all subcontractors comply with safety requirements.
2. Risk Assessment, Site Inspections Hazard Control
Conduct regular risk assessments, hazard identification (HIRA / JSA), job safety analysis for tasks such as working at height, electrical works, lifting, excavation, civil works, module installation, and hot works.
Perform frequent site inspections inspect equipment, machinery, scaffolding, tools, electrical works, temporary installations, PPE usage, access arrangements, fire safety equipment, etc.
Identify unsafe conditions or unsafe work practices, issue corrective actions, stop unsafe jobs if necessary, and follow-up until hazards are mitigated.
3. Safety Training Awareness
Conduct safety inductions for all new staff, subcontractors, and labour before they start work on site.
Organize regular toolbox talks, safety briefings, and refresher safety trainings for all site personnel covering PPE usage, electrical safety, working at height, emergency procedures, safe work practices, and other relevant safety topics.
Foster a safety-first culture across the site encourage reporting of hazards, near misses, and unsafe acts.
4. Incident Management, Investigation Reporting
Investigate all accidents, injuries, near-misses, property damage or safety incidents on site determine root causes, document findings, and propose corrective and preventive actions.
Maintain and manage incident/accident logs, safety observation records, near miss reports, and ensure timely communication of incidents to management and statutory authorities (if required).
Prepare periodic safety reports (daily / weekly / monthly) summarizing safety performance, inspection findings, incidents, compliance status, and recommended improvements.
5. Emergency Preparedness Safety Audits
Develop, maintain, and update emergency response plans, fire safety procedures, evacuation plans, first aid readiness, and ensure fire extinguishers and emergency equipment are available and functional.
Conduct regular safety audits, checks of safety equipment, PPE inventory, work permits (for hot works, lifting, electrical, working at height), scaffolding access safety, and ensure compliance with safety standards.
Organize periodic emergency drills, mock drills, and safety drills to ensure readiness of all personnel.
6. Coordination Stakeholder Interaction
Coordinate with project management, site engineering teams, civil/electrical/mechanical teams, subcontractors, vendors to ensure that safety protocols are integrated into daily work planning and execution.
Act as the primary safety contact for all site personnel, subcontractors, and stakeholders guide on safety procedures, handle safety queries or concerns, and ensure compliance.
Liaise with regulatory authorities or inspectors (as applicable) for safety audits, inspections, statutory compliance, and certifications.
7. Documentation, Compliance Record keeping Reporting
Maintain safety records: inspection reports, audit reports, risk assessment documentation, training records, PPE issuance logs, safety permits/work permits, incident reports, safety meeting minutes, and audit compliance logs.
Prepare and submit regular safety reports to senior management / HSE Manager / Project Head summarizing compliance status, hazards identified, corrective actions, safety metrics (incident rate, near miss rate, safety observations), and improvement recommendations.
8. Promote Safety Culture Continuous Improvement
Promote, encourage and enforce a proactive safety culture on site encourage safe behavior, hazard reporting, adherence to protocols, and accountability at all levels.
Identify potential improvements in safety processes and procedures, recommend enhancements, and support adoption of best practices.
Monitor and review effectiveness of safety measures and corrective actions, and update safety plans/standards periodically based on lessons learned or evolving project scope / conditions.
Qualifications Skills
Education:
Diploma or Degree in Engineering / Safety / Occupational Health Safety / Environmental Science (or equivalent). Additional safety certification (e.g. NEBOSH, OSHA, or equivalent) is preferred.
Technical Knowledge:
Good understanding of construction and installation hazards working at height, electrical safety, mechanical works, working with tools/equipment, lifting operations, civil work safety, emergency procedures, PPE standards.
