Job Description

Who We Are

Girl Effect is an international non-profit that creates media that girls want, trust, and need. From chatbots and chat shows to TV dramas and tech, our content helps adolescent girls in Africa and Asia make choices and changes in their lives. We create safe spaces for girls to share facts and answer questions about health, nutrition, education, and relationships, empowering them with the skills to negotiate and redefine what is possible "for a girl."

Our reach is 60 million and counting, and we leverage technology to reach girls at scale, so every girl can choose to be in control of her body, health, learning, and livelihood. When a girl unlocks her power to make different choices that change her life, it inspires others to do so, too. She starts a ripple effect that impacts her family, community, and country. That's the Girl Effect.

We are seeking an experienced Safeguarding Manager to play a central role in advancing and embedding safeguarding across all areas of our global work. This role is key to our mission of creating safe, inclusive, and empowering environments for young people, ensuring their voices are meaningfully integrated into the programmes and products we deliver.

As a Global Manager, you will work in close collaboration with teams across programmes, brand, content, digital, partnerships, and operations to champion a safeguarding -first mindset across Girl Effect's culture, systems, and everyday practices. This is a role that blends strategic thinking with practical delivery, shaping policies, strengthening internal capacity, and supporting teams to turn safeguarding principles into action. The ideal candidate will bring a solid grounding in safeguarding approaches, a strong commitment to gender and social inclusion, and experience working in diverse, cross-cultural environments.

  • Collaborate with the Director of Safeguarding to implement and strengthen digital safeguarding across online platforms, products, and events, including developing and maintaining relevant digital safeguarding documentation and guidelines.
  • Lead global Safeguarding inductions and provide contextualised capacity building to country teams, ensuring they have the skills and confidence to deliver safeguarding measures and practices.
  • Coordinate and oversee the response to disclosures of harm and abuse, facilitating case management meetings to ensure sensitive cases are handled with care and documented accurately.
  • Support with developing Board reports and where appropriate, any serious incident reports.

Fundraising and Donor Engagement

  • Co-lead donor due diligence processes, ensuring compliance with safeguarding and standards.
  • Collaborate with teams on proposal development and the preparation of donor reports.
  • Represent Girl Effect in donor meetings, providing technical expertise and updates on safeguarding initiatives as required.

This list should not be considered exhaustive; the post holder will be expected to deliver other duties relevant and appropriate to this position.
