Purpose

Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) is seeking a Research Intern to join its Clean Air Team to expand its work in the area of air pollution management. The chosen candidate will support the Clean Air team to carry out quantitative and qualitative research, including literature review, maintaining data repository, data analysis, and would support the advancement of the research and policy engagement for air quality. In addition to the specific duties outlined, the candidate must be flexible and adaptable to respond to unexpected events and developments as they arise.

Job Duties and Accountabilities:

Research

  • To carry out data analysis of the air quality dataset from monitoring stations, citizen grievance redressal systems.
  • To assist in the literature review on citizen grievance redressal mechanisms in India and to summarise the findings as reports.
  • To keep a tab on the latest research developments and policy developments in the state, India and worldwide, pertinent to air quality management.
  • To provide research content for the organisation's web pages, blogs, issue briefs, etc.
  • To participate in relevant conferences, workshops, training programmes for a comprehensive understanding of air quality management in India and globally.

Programme assistance

  • Assist with project implementation, including help with preparing presentations, factsheets and other communication material.
  • Support efforts to use new media platforms for the wide dissemination of CEEW's work and, in turn, closer engagement with the wider community.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings and assist with preparing minutes.
  • Support senior team members for important meetings and sessions, prepare notes, and conduct follow-ups, as required

Selection Criteria

Qualification & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in science, engineering, environmental policy, public policy or any related fields.

Work experience

  • 0-2 years of experience in policy research and data analysis.
  • Desirable: Research experience in the domain of air quality monitoring, data analysis and climate science.
  • Desirable: Experience in field research, for data collection/training of enumerators/sampling of households/pilot testing and monitoring activities.

Key Skills

  • Must be proficient in Hindi, and English.
  • Must have strong communication skills for effective, efficient, and adaptive verbal and written communication, and active listening.
  • Must have strong research skills – the capability to carry out systematic literature review, familiarity with research methods is a bonus.
  • Experience working on data analysis tools like Excel, STATA, R and Python.
  • Desirable but not mandatory: Working on geospatial and other big datasets

Desirable skills

  • Experience in energy efficiency and energy audits across industrial sectors.
  • Technical and operational knowledge of industrial processes and equipment; must have knowledge of emerging technology solutions and automated tools.
