Job Description

PURPOSE OF ROLE

The Aerospace Welding Engineer supports welding operations for aerospace components by developing welding procedures, ensuring compliance with industry standards, supporting production teams, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives. The role involves hands-on work with welding processes commonly used in aerospace, such as GTAW (TIG), resistance welding, and laser welding, while ensuring adherence to stringent quality and safety requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist in the development, qualification, and documentation of Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), PQRs, and work instructions.
  2. Provide day-to-day technical support to welders and manufacturing teams for process issues, equipment optimization, and defect reduction.
  3. Participate in selecting appropriate welding processes, filler materials, tools, and fixtures.
  4. Ensure welding activities comply with AS9100, NADCAP, AWS D17.1, and customer-specific standards.
  5. Support root cause analysis and implement corrective/preventive actions for weld-related nonconformances.
  6. Work closely with Quality and NDT teams for inspection planning (e.g., X-ray, dye penetrant, ultrasonic)
  7. Assist in continuous improvement projects focused on reducing weld defects, enhancing productivity, and improving repeatability
  8. Support setup, maintenance, and calibration of welding equipment such as TIG welders, weld monitors, laser welding systems, and resistance welding machines.
  9. Contribute to fixture design reviews and tooling validation activities.
  10. Maintain accurate welding process records, qualification logs, and production documentation.
  11. Create reports on process performance, welding trials, and engineering changes.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

Technical Skills (

  1. Basic understanding of welding processes: GTAW (TIG), GMAW, resistance welding, Orbital or laser welding.
  2. Knowledge of aerospace materials such as aluminium, titanium, nickel alloys, stainless steel.
  3. Familiarity with NADCAP welding requirements and AWS D17.1 is an advantage.
  4. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and weld symbols.
  5. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  6. Exposure to NDT methods (PT, RT, UT).
  7. Hands-on shop experience supporting welders and manufacturing teams.
  8. Experience with CAD, weld parameter monitoring software, or ERP systems.

QUALIFICATION:

Essential:

  1. Bachelor of Science or Engineering degree in Mechanical engineering, Aerospace engineering or other technical.
  2. 2-3 years of experience preferably from Aerospace and defence experience.
