Network Cabling Technician

Role Description

Key Responsibilities

• Install, terminate, and test Cat5e, Cat6, and fiber optic network cables.
• Perform cable routing through ceilings, walls, conduits, and cable trays.
• Mount and label network racks, patch panels, wall jacks, and outlets.
• Conduct cable performance testing and certification using tools such as Fluke testers.
• Troubleshoot network cabling faults and connectivity issues.
• Follow wiring diagrams, floor plans, and project layouts.
• Maintain accurate cabling documentation and labeling standards.
• Support network engineers during LAN/WAN installations and upgrades.
• Adhere to safety protocols and building codes during installation.

Qualifications

Education:

• ITI / Diploma or certificate in Information Technology, Electronics, Telecommunications, or a related technical field.
• Vocational or trade school training in structured cabling is an advantage.

Experience:

• 1–3 years of experience in structured cabling, LAN installation, or low-voltage systems.

Technical Skills:

• Strong knowledge of Cat5e/Cat6 cabling standards (TIA/EIA-568).
• Experience with fiber optic cabling, splicing, and termination (preferred).
• Ability to use cable testers, crimping tools, and fusion splicers.
• Familiarity with patch panels, network switches, and server racks.
• Basic understanding of LAN networking (IP, VLAN, ports).
• Ability to read technical drawings and blueprints.

• Ability to follow instructions and safety procedures.
• Physically fit to work in confined spaces, climb ladders, and lift equipment.

• Familiarity with rack dressing and cable management best practices.
