About Us:

Role Description:

A. Manufacturing

• Set up the manufacturing base for Orbit - including facility identification, developing production lines and infrastructure and hiring a team
• Create blue-prints, SOPs, manuals etc. needed for optimal production
• Responsible for timely production of Orbit machinery in a cost effective way
• Ensure all compliances with respect to manufacturing and the personnel
• Understanding of tolerance and fitting standards, with ability to write specifications
• Awareness of the DFA (Design for Assembly) process and manufacturing standards

B. Procurement

• Lead vendor co-ordination for sourcing of key products like motor and controller
• Engage with different vendors, including potential imports from China to optimise cost of material
• Negotiate credit terms to streamline the working capital for the company
• Inventory management and planning

C. Quality Control

• Set up stringent QC norms for all items manufactured in Orbit workshop
• Set up QC process at material inbound stage

D. Make-vs-Buy ownership

Identify and evaluate components where in-house production offers a cost or quality advantage over outsourcing, ensuring optimal make-vs-buy decisions. Drive the roadmap for gradually localizing production by purchasing key machinery and equipment, enabling Orbit to achieve profitability.

This is a Leadership role at Orbit and the candidate will work closely with the co-founders. Besides the core deliverables, the candidate is also expected to collaborate across teams and functions.

B. Experience:

• 4 to 6 years of shop floor experience - having seen manufacturing processes at close quarters
• Clear understanding of standard manufacturing processes and machines like laser cutting, bending, different types of welding etc
• Any knowledge of wiring harness, battery assembly etc is an added advantage
• Manufacturing experience in automotive, agriculture machinery or EV companies is preferable
