Manager Electrical Substation Design

Key Responsibilities:

Design & Engineering

• Lead design activities for high-voltage (HV/EHV/765kV) substations including layout, equipment sizing, earthing, protection systems, and auxiliary systems.
• Review, validate, and approve detailed engineering designs, drawings, and BOQs prepared by internal teams or consultants.
• Perform technical calculations for load flow, short circuit, earthing, lightning protection, and equipment ratings.
• Ensure designs meet applicable standards (IEC, IEEE, IS, CEA, client-specific guidelines).
• Develop and maintain standard design templates, guidelines, and best practices.

Project Management & Coordination

• Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery of design outputs.
• Collaborate with consultants, contractors, OEMs, and internal departments to resolve design-related issues.
• Support project planning, scheduling, and resource allocation.
• Provide technical inputs during bid preparation, tender evaluation, and client discussions.
• Coordinate with procurement and construction teams to ensure design compliance during execution.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

• Implement design quality assurance processes, conduct design reviews, and ensure error-free deliverables.
• Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and statutory requirements in design documents.
• Provide engineering support during site execution, addressing RFIs, design deviations, and change requests.

Leadership & Team Development

• Lead and mentor design engineers, providing technical guidance and support.
• Review team performance and ensure skill development through training and knowledge sharing.
• Foster collaboration across design, planning, procurement, and execution functions.

Qualifications & Skills:

Education:

• Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred specialization in Power Systems).

Experience:

• 8–12 years of experience in substation design engineering (400kV and above).
• Proven track record of leading multi-disciplinary design teams in large-scale substation projects.

Technical Skills:

• Strong knowledge of HV/EHV substation design, protection, control systems, and auxiliary systems.
• Proficiency in design and engineering tools (AutoCAD, ETAP, CYME, or similar).
• Familiarity with national and international standards (IEC, IEEE, IS, ANSI).
