Role Overview:

As a Linux Engineer (L1) at RedSwitches, you will be the first line of support for our global customer base, handling a variety of technical requests related to Linux server management, hosting environments, and infrastructure services. You’ll work via ticketing systems, live chat, and remote console access, collaborating closely with senior engineers to ensure smooth operations and timely issue resolution.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Respond to customer queries via the ticketing system and live chat in a professional and timely manner.


  • Provide L1 technical support and escalate complex issues to L2/L3 teams as needed.


  • Document issues, resolutions, and standard procedures in internal knowledge bases.


  • Maintain SLAs for response and resolution times.


  • Troubleshoot common Linux OS issues such as high load, process failures, login/access problems, and disk errors.


  • Perform basic system tuning, log analysis, and resource monitoring.


  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and security settings.


  • Install, configure, and maintain common server software, including web servers, databases, Firewalls, FTP servers, mail servers, and DNS services.


  • Operate remote access tools including IPMI, iDRAC, iLO, and KVM consoles.


  • Work with VPNs and secure shell (SSH) for remote troubleshooting and maintenance.


  • Assist with setup, configuration, and basic troubleshooting in hosting control panels like: cPanel/WHM, Plesk, DirectAdmin.


  • Perform basic troubleshooting on Windows servers (login issues, RDP access, service status, etc.).


  • Assist in hybrid environments where applicable.


  • Monitor servers using tools like Zabbix, Nagios, etc.


  • Assist with backups and restores using tools such as Acronis, or rsync.


  • Proactively detect and alert on server health and downtime issues.


  • Perform data migrations between servers or datacenters under guidance.


  • Coordinate with datacenter engineers for hardware-related issues and resolutions

Qualifications & Skills:


  • 0–2 years of hands-on experience in a similar Linux support/hosting environment.


  • Solid understanding of Linux fundamentals (preferably CentOS, Ubuntu, Debian).


  • Familiarity with ticketing systems (e.g., WHMCS, Zoho desk).


  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English.


  • Customer-first attitude with the ability to multitask.


  • Basic knowledge of networking (IP addressing, DNS, routing concepts).


  • Willingness to work in rotational shifts, including weekends.


Good to Have (Bonus Skills):


• RHCSA or equivalent Linux certification.


• Exposure to virtualization (VMware, KVM, Proxmox).


• Understanding of RAID configurations and storage systems.
