IT Administrator

An IT administrator's job description includes maintaining and managing a company's computer systems, networks, and servers to ensure they are secure, efficient, and functioning correctly. Key duties involve technical support, system maintenance, security management, and user administration. They troubleshoot hardware and software issues, perform data backups and recovery, implement security protocols, and manage user accounts and access permissions.

Core responsibilities

· Technical support:

Provide technical assistance to employees, troubleshoot hardware and software problems, and resolve connectivity issues.

· System maintenance:

Install, configure, and maintain servers, operating systems, and application software. This includes performing regular upgrades and patches.

· Security management:

Implement and maintain security protocols, monitor systems for threats, manage firewalls, and perform security tests.

· User administration:

Create, modify, and delete user accounts, and manage user permissions and access to systems and data.

· Data management:

Perform regular data backups, manage archives, and ensure data integrity and recovery processes are in place.

· Network administration:

Maintain and monitor network performance, and manage network equipment.

· Documentation:

Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of all IT processes, systems, and procedures.

· Strategic planning:

Collaborate with leadership to identify and implement new technologies to improve company systems.

Key skills and qualifications

Strong understanding of computer hardware and software, operating systems (like Windows, Linux, macOS), and network infrastructure.

Experience with virtualization, cloud computing, and enterprise backup solutions is often required.

Proficiency in troubleshooting and problem-solving.

Knowledge of security best practices.

Good communication and interpersonal skills to interact with employees and management.
