Job Role

Responsible for planning, design review, installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance readiness of all instrumentation and control systems for a fertilizer greenfield project, ensuring compliance with statutory norms, safety standards, and project timelines.

Key Responsibilities

1. Project Execution & Planning

  • Lead instrumentation engineering for fertilizer greenfield projects, including utilities and offsite units.
  • Coordinate with process, mechanical, and electrical teams for integrated project execution.
  • Review/approve P&IDs, loop diagrams, control philosophy, and instrument index.
  • Ensure timely delivery of instrumentation packages as per project schedule.
  • Supervise installation, calibration, testing, and commissioning at site.

2. Design & Technical Review

  • Review detailed engineering deliverables from EPC/consultants.
  • Ensure design compliance with ISA, IEC, API, and project standards.
  • Finalize field instruments, control valves, analyzers, transmitters, and DCS/PLC/ESD systems.
  • Manage DCS configuration, interlocks, logic development, and system integration.

3. Vendor & Contractor Coordination

  • Evaluate, shortlist, and approve vendors and contractors.
  • Conduct TBEs and participate in techno-commercial meetings.
  • Monitor vendor progress, FAT/SAT, and ensure quality compliance.

4. Commissioning & Maintenance Readiness

  • Lead pre-commissioning and commissioning of instrumentation and automation systems.
  • Prepare SOPs for calibration, preventive, and shutdown maintenance.
  • Train plant maintenance teams for long-term sustainability.

5. Compliance, Safety & Documentation

  • Ensure instrumentation systems comply with statutory, environmental, and safety regulations.
  • Maintain documentation as per ISO/IMS/QMS standards.
  • Support in factory licensing and other technical approvals.

Technical Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of instrumentation design, automation, and control systems.
  • DCS exposure is mandatory (Honeywell/Yokogawa/Emerson/Siemens preferred).
  • Expertise in project planning, execution, and engineering coordination.
  • Vendor & contractor management, cost and schedule control.
  • Knowledge of fertilizer plant automation and process control.
  • Awareness of safety standards and statutory compliance.

Qualification

  • B.E./B.Tech in Instrumentation / Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering.
  • Certifications in DCS/PLC systems preferred.

Experience

  • 1020 years in Instrumentation in Fertilizer/Chemical/Petrochemical industries.
  • 5–7 years in Greenfield/Brownfield project execution.
  • Strong experience with DCS (Honeywell/Yokogawa/Emerson/Siemens), PLCs, and automation used in fertilizer plants.
  • Experience working with EPCs, consultants, and OEMs.
