Job Description

Job Summary:

The Lab Instructor in Mechanical Engineering is responsible for preparing, conducting, and supervising laboratory sessions for undergraduate and/or graduate students. The role involves ensuring the safe and effective use of laboratory equipment, assisting students in experimental procedures, and supporting faculty in course delivery through practical demonstrations and hands-on instruction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare laboratory equipment, tools, and materials in advance of scheduled lab sessions.
  • Conduct lab sessions in subjects such as Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer, Mechanics of Materials, Dynamics, CAD/CAM, Manufacturing Processes, Robotics, or Instrumentation and Control, depending on department needs.
  • Instruct and guide students through lab experiments, explaining procedures, theory, and data analysis techniques.
  • Ensure student safety and enforce proper laboratory safety protocols at all times.
  • Provide support for student projects and assist with design, fabrication, and testing when necessary.
  • Maintain lab equipment, perform routine checks, and coordinate repairs or servicing as needed.
  • Assist in updating lab manuals and documentation.
  • Evaluate student performance in lab exercises and prepare reports or grading as required.
  • Collaborate with faculty to improve lab content and integrate hands-on activities with course objectives.
  • Maintain inventory of lab supplies and submit procurement requests when needed.
  • Support faculty in research or departmental development projects, if assigned.
  • Assist faculty in preparing and delivering lectures, tutorials, or discussion sections.
  • Support laboratory sessions by setting up experiments, guiding students, and ensuring lab safety.
  • Hold office hours to assist students with coursework, homework, or lab-related questions.
  • Grade assignments, quizzes, exams, and lab reports according to provided rubrics and guidelines.
  • Provide feedback to students to help them improve their understanding and performance.
  • Attend lectures or labs (as required) to stay aligned with course content and expectations.
  • Help manage course content on learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard).
  • Assist with proctoring exams or quizzes.
  • Participate in weekly or periodic meetings with the instructor or other TAs.
  • Provide feedback to the instructor about student progress or difficulties observed in class or labs.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Demonstrated experience with mechanical lab equipment and tools.
  • Strong understanding of core mechanical engineering principles and lab procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to laboratory safety and academic integrity.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From ₹12,000.00 per month
