Role Overview

Field Application Engineer – IIoT / Automation

You will be the crucial link between factory equipment (CNCs, PLCs, sensors) and our cloud analytics platform, helping customers achieve real-time visibility into their operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Visit manufacturing plants to assess machine communication interfaces (RS232, RS485, Ethernet, OPC, MQTT, Modbus, etc.)
• Capture and document data points available from machines (e.g., tool offsets, alarms, production counts, temperature, etc.)
• Configure edge gateways or data collection software to transmit machine data securely to Zometric Cloud APIs
• Support customer teams in testing and validating data integration with our platform
• Troubleshoot machine connectivity issues in coordination with OEMs or factory IT/automation teams
• Document machine types, protocols, IPs/ports, and setup SOPs for scale deployments
• Collaborate with Zometric's engineering team to enhance device driver libraries and integration toolkits
• Train customer engineers and operators on basic usage and maintenance of the setup
  

Qualifications

• Diploma/Bachelor’s in Instrumentation, Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, Computer Science, or related field
• Understanding of machine communication protocols (RS232/485, Modbus, OPC UA, TCP/IP, etc.)
• Familiarity with data acquisition systems, PLCs, CNCs, and industrial automation
• Basic experience with Python or Linux-based tools is a plus
• Willingness to travel to manufacturing sites across India
• Strong documentation and communication skills
  

Nice to Have

• Experience working with edge devices like Raspberry Pi, gateways, or PLC-connected IPCs
• Exposure to SCADA/MES systems or manufacturing IT infrastructure
• Knowledge of industrial networking (switches, firewalls, IP configuration)
