HPC System Administrator Trainee

  • Position Title: HPC System Administrator Trainee
  • Qualification: MCA / M.Sc. Computer Science / B.E / B.Tech – IT / CSE
  • Experience: Minimum 1 year in system administration/Linux or related role (strong freshers may also be considered)
  • Work Requirement: Must be willing to work in rotational shifts, including night shifts on alternate days or as scheduled, to ensure 24/7 infrastructure support.

Role Summary:

A dedicated HPC System Administrator Trainee is required to support and manage the existing and upcoming High-Performance Computing (HPC) and AI server clusters. Due to the increasing computational needs for research, simulations, AI/ML workloads, and continuous infrastructure availability, this role is essential for system reliability, maintenance, user support, and future scalability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and manage HPC and GPU-based AI clusters.
  • Install, configure, and maintain Linux-based servers and HPC environments.
  • Manage job schedulers such as SLURM/PBS for high-performance workloads.
  • Configure and maintain container platforms (Docker, Singularity, Kubernetes) for research applications.
  • Support virtualization technologies (KVM, OpenStack, Nutanix etc.) for resource allocation and testing environments.
  • Provide technical assistance during day shifts and, on alternate/scheduled days, during night shifts to ensure 247 operational support.
  • Monitor storage systems, network performance, and system health.
  • Perform system updates, patches, backups, and security hardening.
  • Assist faculty, researchers, and students in using HPC systems efficiently.
  • Maintain documentation of configurations, procedures, and infrastructure planning.

Required Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of Linux/Unix system administration.
  • Basic understanding of Docker, container environments, and virtualization platforms.
  • Familiarity with networking, shell scripting (Bash/Python), storage systems.
  • Knowledge of HPC architecture, schedulers, or cloud computing (preferred).
  • Willingness to work in rotational and night shifts.
  • Good problem-solving ability and willingness to learn emerging technologies.
