Health & Safety Manager

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and proactive HSE Manager to lead and manage all aspects of health, safety, and environmental practices within our shipbuilding operations. This role is critical to ensuring a safe working environment in high-risk zones such as dry docks, fabrication yards, and outfitting areas. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership, hands-on industry experience, and a commitment to upholding safety standards across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:Health & Safety Management:

• Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive HSE policies, procedures, and programs in compliance with applicable laws and industry best practices.
• Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments across shipbuilding areas including docks, workshops, assembly yards, and confined spaces.
• Identify potential hazards and implement preventive and corrective measures.
• Investigate incidents, accidents, near misses, and unsafe acts/conditions; prepare detailed reports with root cause analysis and action plans.

Training & Awareness:

• Organize and conduct safety induction programs for new employees, contract labor, and visitors.
• Facilitate regular toolbox talks, safety drills (fire, evacuation, etc.), and HSE awareness campaigns.
• Train line managers and supervisors on safety leadership and incident response.

Regulatory Compliance:

• Ensure full compliance with all local, state, and national safety, health, and environmental regulations.
• Liaise with statutory and regulatory bodies during inspections, audits, or incident investigations.
• Maintain records and documentation in accordance with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and applicable maritime regulations.

Emergency Preparedness:

• Develop and implement emergency response plans and procedures.
• Coordinate with firefighting, medical, and rescue teams in case of emergencies.
• Monitor the availability and maintenance of PPE, firefighting equipment, and safety signage.

Team Leadership & Reporting:

• Lead and manage the HSE team, assigning responsibilities and monitoring their performance.
• Provide regular reports and updates to senior management on HSE performance, metrics, and improvement plans.
• Promote a culture of safety across all levels of the workforce and subcontractors.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field (Mechanical / Marine preferred).
• Diploma in Industrial Safety or NEBOSH/IOSH Certification is mandatory.
• 10–15 years of HSE experience, with at least 5 years in a shipyard, dockyard, or heavy fabrication industry.
• In-depth knowledge of shipyard operations, confined space safety, hot work permits, fall protection, and environmental regulations.

Key Skills:

• Strong understanding of risk management in marine or shipbuilding operations.
• Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
• Capable of driving safety culture in a diverse, high-risk environment.
• Hands-on experience with safety software/tools and reporting systems.

Preferred:

• Experience in managing subcontractor safety compliance.
• Familiarity with classification societies (e.g., DNV, ABS, IRS) and marine regulatory standards.
• Exposure to OHSAS 18001 / ISO 45001, ISO 14001 implementation and audits.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ₹80,000.00 - ₹100,000.00 per month
