Position Overview

The Head Chef will oversee the daily kitchen operations of the café, ensuring high-quality food preparation, menu execution, hygiene compliance, and smooth teamwork. The role requires strong culinary expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to maintain consistency in taste, presentation, and service standards. The Head Chef will work closely with the Senior Chef on menu development, cost control, and kitchen staff training.

Key Responsibilities1. Kitchen Operations & Food Preparation

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the kitchen and guide all cooks and support staff.
  • Ensure consistent preparation and presentation of all café-style dishes.
  • Maintain high standards of taste, texture, and visual appeal.
  • Oversee daily mise-en-place and workflow planning.

2. Menu Planning & Development

  • Collaborate with the Senior Chef on menu creation and seasonal specials.
  • Innovate new dishes aligned with café cuisine trends.
  • Ensure portion control and recipe standardization.

3. Team Leadership & Training

  • Supervise and mentor kitchen staff; arrange training sessions when required.
  • Create duty rosters and allocate tasks to maintain efficiency.
  • Foster a positive and disciplined work environment.

4. Inventory & Cost Control

  • Monitor stock levels and place orders for ingredients.
  • Reduce wastage and manage food cost within budget guidelines.
  • Conduct regular checks on storage practices and FIFO implementation.

5. Hygiene & Safety Compliance

  • Ensure strict adherence to FSSAI and internal hygiene standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen stations and equipment.
  • Enforce safety protocols to minimize kitchen hazards.

6. Coordination & Reporting

  • Work closely with the Senior Chef to implement culinary strategies.
  • Provide updates on kitchen performance, staff issues, and inventory status.
  • Coordinate with the service team to ensure timely food delivery.

Qualifications & SkillsEducational & Experience Requirements

  • Diploma or degree in Culinary Arts, Hotel Management, or related field.
  • 4–7 years of professional kitchen experience, preferably in cafés or casual dining.
  • Proven experience in a supervisory role.

Technical Skills

  • Strong culinary skills across multiple café-style cuisines.
  • Knowledge of food safety, nutrition, and hygiene standards.
  • Proficiency in kitchen inventory and cost control.

Soft Skills

  • Leadership and team-handling skills.
  • Time management and multitasking abilities.
  • Creativity, attention to detail, and strong communication skills.

Working Conditions
